The March 24th episodes of AEW Dynamite and WWE NXT saw AEW suffer a small decrease in viewers while NXT gained sizable increases in both viewership and key demographic rankings. AEW continued their advantage over NXT in regards to key demographic viewership.
AEW drew 757,000 viewers and a #6 ranking in the 18-49 demographic while NXT drew 678,000 and a #29 ranking in the 18-49 demographic.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that AEW generated mixed results for their show this week with the gains from their older key demographic viewership groups being offset by the losses from their teenagers and younger key demographic viewership groups. NXT’s overrun for this week’s show reportedly generated one of the lowest ever amount of additional viewers since their move to the USA Network.
In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 384,000 viewers while NXT had 183,000 viewers. AEW’s biggest increase was with their Females 35-49 group at 18.8% higher and their biggest decrease was with their Females 18-34 group at 7.9% lower than last week’s show. NXT’s biggest increase was with their Males 18-34 group at 37.5% higher and their biggest decrease was with their Females 18-34 group at 16.1% lower than last week’s show. AEW’s show reportedly skewed the third youngest for sports programming for the week, behind just two NBA games.
In terms of quarter-hour viewership, AEW reportedly won seven out of eight quarters for overall viewership and all eight quarters for key demographic viewership. NXT’s sole win was the third quarter for overall viewership.
In terms of the main event quarter, AEW reportedly had 817,000 for overall viewership and 412,000 for key demographic viewership for the TNT Championship match of John Silver vs. Darby Allin. NXT reportedly had 640,000 for overall viewership and 174,000 for key demographic viewership for the KUSHIDA vs. Jordan Devlin match.
In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 7.6% in overall viewership and down 13.5% in key demographic viewership compared to the same week last year. NXT was up 9.2% in overall viewership but down 27.7% in key demographic viewership compared to the same week last year.
AEW Dynamite started off with around 807,000 viewers and their biggest gain of the night was the TNT Championship match which gained 68,000 viewers. AEW’s biggest decline of the night was the Hangman Adam Page vs. Cezar Bononi match, the Lance Archer promo segment, the Thunder Rosa interview recap video, and the Britt Baker interview segment which lost 67,000 viewers.
WWE NXT started off with around 730,000 viewers and their biggest gain of the night was the Finn Balor and Karrion Kross promo segment, the William Regal announcement segment, and the WALTER vs. Drake Maverick match which gained 35,000 viewers. NXT’s biggest decline of the night was the Karrion Kross vs. Oney Lorcan match which lost 72,000 viewers. NXT’s overrun gained an additional 39,000 viewers to end the night.
