More on NJPW’s TV Deal with Roku & Interest from AXS TV
As noted before, New Japan Pro Wrestling announced earlier this month that they have signed a television deal with Roku for the United States, Canada, and United Kingdom television markets.
Dave Meltzer reported in a recent episode of the Wrestling Observer Radio that AXS TV had been very interested in bringing back NJPW to their network. Meltzer reported that NJPW officials turned down AXS TV’s offer due to them feeling the offer from Roku was better in terms of their television strategy and wanting to be on a bigger network in the U.S.
Meltzer also reported that another reason for NJPW’s rejection of AXS TV’s offer was due to their deal with Roku is not exclusive and allows them to sign deals with other providers. AXS TV’s offer reportedly would have locked them into an exclusive deal with the network which was something NJPW currently does not want to do.
