Tony Khan Comments on Decision to Hold AEW Revolution 2021 on a Sunday

PWInsider held a recent interview with AEW CEO Tony Khan and one of the topics discussed included the reason for the decision to hold next month’s Revolution 2021 event on a Sunday.

“I worked really hard to get Bleacher Report on board. I felt like before we even knew we were doing a women’s tournament for sure, I knew I wanted to get a special on Bleacher Report on Sunday. We didn’t have a history of running shows on Sunday, so I felt that if we put on a great show and got the fans in the habit of watching AEW on Sunday a week before Revolution, we could establish it and create some new behavior, because I love doing the pay per views on Saturday, and we do these quarterly – Revolution, Double or Nothing, All Out and Full Gear. Now for Double or Nothing and All Out, they come on holiday weekends, Memorial Day and Labor Day so everyone here in America, most people get Monday off, and in England, the same holiday those weekends also. It’s a good weekend to do a pay per view, so the Saturday/Sunday thing is not as important there, it’s not like people are rushing into work. So we’ve done them on Saturdays, Double or Nothing and All Out – there I don’t think it’s that big of a difference, so I’m open to doing them there. This time, it was the right night, I’ve enjoyed doing them on Saturdays and we can look to do…certainly, Full Gear I would like to do on Saturday because I have no intention of ever competing with the NFL, so Saturday in November makes more sense for Full Gear.  “

Kenny Omega Comments on Hikaru Shida Helping Put Together AEW’s Women’s Title Tournament

TalkSport held a recent interview with Kenny Omega. One of the topics discussed included Omega’s thoughts on Hikaru Shida helping put together the Japanese side of AEW’s Women’s World Championship Eliminator tournament.

“I enjoyed every minute of it. Every match had something unique to offer and I couldn’t have been more proud of them and couldn’t have been more proud of Hikaru Shida, actually. She really went the extra mile and put it all together herself in Japan. These things don’t happen out of thin air. She really wanted to feature the women wrestlers more, the girls stuck in Japan and feature some of the women that she has worked with when she was doing freelance work. So we got some of the other freelancers like Veny, for example. She wrestles in Japan as Asuka. And Veny absolutely killed it against Emi Sakura. Just an incredible match. It gave people a taste of what they’re missing out on, just what they’re missing out out in the world. It’s unfortunate you can’t see all the best stuff all the time every week, but I felt extremely proud to host something as a way for people to see what goes on in that world of joshi and how our athletes are doing as well.”

Jon Moxley Comments on His Upcoming Exploding Barbed Wire Deathmatch at AEW Revolution

The Wrestling Observer Radio held a recent interview with Jon Moxley. One of the topics discussed included Moxley revealing he was not the person who came up with doing an Exploding Barbed Wire Deathmatch for his match at next month’s AEW Revolution event.

“Never would have expected in a million years that I would do one in AEW. Two years ago, when I first talked to them, I never would’ve been like, ‘Hey, I wanna sign with you, can I come do exploding barbed wire deathmatches?’ I never expected that opportunity. When this was brought to me, quite some time ago actually, I wasn’t going to turn it down. ‘Really? We can do that? Hell yeah.’ It was brought to me. I was like a kid in the candy store. I have a standard that I have to live up to. One thing I can’t stand is promising something and not delivering to fans. When I tell you some wild stuff is going down, I’m going to deliver on it,” he said. “I made it clear to Tony, ‘Don’t put me in these situations unless you want me to go full tilt.’ Be careful what you wish for. I’m not in the business of underdelivering on promises.”
