More on AEW vs. NXT Week 69 Viewership
The January 27th episodes of AEW Dynamite and WWE NXT saw AEW suffer a noticeable large drop in viewership while the opposite occurred for NXT. The viewership gap of 14,000 between both shows was one of the smallest ever between both shows. AEW continued their advantage over NXT in regards of key demographic viewership.
AEW drew 734,000 viewers and a #6 ranking in the 18-49 demographic while NXT drew 720,000 and a #24 ranking in the 18-49 demographic.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that a key reason for AEW’s large drop in viewership was due to issues with the feed of the show that affected some of TNT’s cable markets and FITE TV’s streaming service. AEW reportedly had outages that lasted between 30 minutes to an hour in some areas and mainly affected the East Coast. Meltzer reported that this was a key reason why NXT’s key demographic viewership was much higher than usual for the first 45 minutes of their show before leveling back down to its usual viewership levels. Another reason was stiff competition from the NBA that night, which also affected NXT’s viewership during the latter half of their show.
In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW reportedly had 378,000 viewers while NXT had 278,000 viewers.
In terms of key demographic viewership breakdowns, Meltzer reported that AEW suffered the most with younger viewers, especially those under the age of 35 and female viewers. NXT reportedly managed to beat AEW in two key demographic groups, which were the Females 18-49 and Females 12-34 groups.
In terms of the main event quarter, AEW reportedly had 705,000 for overall viewership and 360,000 for key demographic viewership. NXT reportedly had 629,000 for overall viewership and 222,000 for key demographic viewership.
In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 11.4% in overall viewership and down 14.7% in key demographic viewership. NXT was up 1.1% in overall viewership and down 4.5% in key demographic viewership.
