Goldberg returned to WWE TV tonight on Raw for the first time since losing the Universal Championship to Braun Strowman at WrestleMania in April.
He challenged McIntyre to a WWE Championship match at the Royal Rumble, and though the show went off the air before McIntyre gave his official response, that looks like it’ll be one of the main events for the Rumble on January 31.
After McIntyre defeated Keith Lee in the Raw main event tonight, Goldberg’s music hit and he came out to the ring to confront McIntyre. He said that there couldn’t be a better representative to be the WWE Champion than McIntyre and he has it all, but one thing he doesn’t have is respect. He said that he knows that McIntyre views WWE legends as “a bunch of washed up, tired old men and women” and “not one of them poses a threat to you,” but he was there to show McIntyre that he’s wrong.
He then said that he wasn’t demanding anything from McIntyre, but he’s challenging him to a WWE Championship match at the Royal Rumble. McIntyre grabbed the mic and said “fighting you would be like fighting my own dad, mate.” They got in each other’s faces and Goldberg shoved McIntyre down hard as the show immediately went off the air. In the YouTube video below, McIntyre gets back on his feet and shoves his head in Goldberg’s face for a couple of seconds.
Last month, Goldberg said that he had some “unfinished business” with Roman Reigns and that match will probably still eventually happen, but not at the Royal Rumble.
Goldberg is under contract with WWE for two matches per year until 2023.
