As noted before, the December 23rd episodes of AEW Dynamite and WWE NXT resulted in Dynamite generating around 775,000 viewers on TNT and a #5 ranking in the 18-49 key demographic while NXT generated around 698,000 viewers on USA Network and a #40 ranking in the 18-49 key demographic.
The week of December 23rd was also a rare instance where both shows ran unopposed with the exception of around five minutes.
This week’s issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter provided more details for both shows that week.
Dave Meltzer reported that in terms of key demographic viewership breakdowns, AEW had 114,000 viewers in the Males 18-34 group, 49,000 viewers in the Females 18-34 group, 169,000 viewers in the Males 35-49 group, and 91,000 viewers in the Females 35-49 group. Of the key demographic groups, AEW’s Males 18-34 was 123.5% higher, Females 18-34 was 9.3% lower, Males 35-49 was 24.6% lower, and Females 35-49 was identical compared to the previous week’s show.
NXT reportedly had 31,000 viewers in the Males 18-34 group, 29,000 viewers in the Females 18-34 group, 120,000 viewers in the Males 35-49 group, and 86,000 viewers in the Females 35-49 group. Of the key demographic groups, NXT’s Males 18-34 was 6.9% higher, Females 18-34 was 70.6% higher, Males 35-49 was 10.4% lower, and Females 35-49 was 19.4% higher than the previous week’s show.
In terms of the one million viewership mark, AEW reportedly hit over one million viewers once during their show, which was the first quarter.
In terms of peak viewership, AEW’s peak was their first quarter at 1,294,000 for overall viewership and 703,000 for key demographic viewership. AEW’s lowest point was their eight quarter for both overall viewership at 482,000 and key demographic viewership at 217,000. NXT’s peak was their first quarter at 732,000 for overall viewership and 262,000 for key demographic viewership. NXT’s lowest point was their eight quarter for overall viewership at 613,000 and their seventh and eight quarters for key demographic viewership at 218,000.
AEW Dynamite started off with around 1,294,000 viewers and had no quarter-hour feature an increase of viewers. AEW’s biggest decline of the night was the Jake Hager promo segment, The Acclaimed’s rap music video segment, and the Sting Interview segment which lost 338,000 viewers.
WWE NXT started off with around 732,000 viewers and their biggest gain of the night was the ending of the Rhea Ripley vs. Dakota Kai match and post-match Ripley & Raquel Gonzalez confrontation, a Gargano Family Christmas segment, and the Toni Storm interview segment which gained 33,000 viewers. NXT’s biggest decline of the night was the Isaiah Scott vs. Jake Atlas match and the Undisputed Era & Velveteen Dream interview segment which lost 55,000 viewers. NXT’s overrun gained an additional 20,000 viewers to end the night.
