Update on WWE’s Plans for Undertaker at Survivor Series
As noted before, WWE recently announced that they will be holding a special ceremony for the Undertaker at this month’s Survivor Series. This ceremony is currently being advertised as a farewell to the Undertaker after a 30 year career with the company.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that WWE currently does not have any plans for the Undertaker to wrestle at Survivor Series and this ceremony is meant to be a legit retirement ceremony for the Undertaker character in the company.
In a recent interview with The New York Post, Undertaker himself stated that he felt he was done as an active wrestler after the taping of the Boneyard Match at WrestleMania 36 earlier this year. Undertaker also stated that he does not want to artificially extend his career with more cinematic style matches.
“I realized I have taken every physical gift, tool that I have and have used it up. There’s no water left in the sponge, if I can use that analogy. I’ve rung everything I could get out of that sponge.
It really doesn’t appeal to me because basically what it is, is working around my limitations. It’s capitalizing on some of my ability and some of my creative ability to tell a story but basically it’s trying to mask some of the lack of my physical abilities at this point.”
Meltzer reported that Savio Vega, Glenn “Kane” Jacobs, and Charles “The Godfather” Wright have been confirmed so far to be making an appearance at Survivor Series for Undertaker’s ceremony.
WWE Reportedly Considering Pushing Back the Date of WrestleMania 37
As noted before, WWE is currently considering plans to move next year’s WrestleMania 37 event from Inglewood, California to Tampa, Florida in order to have a better chance to hold the event with fans in attendance.
WrestleVotes reported that WWE officials recently held internal talks over the idea of potentially pushing back the date of WrestleMania 37 from its currently scheduled March 28, 2021 date to either an April 11th or April 18th date instead. It was reported that WWE officials currently feel that pushing back the date by a few weeks might give them a better chance to be able to hold the event with fans in attendance.
There has been internal discussions about moving the scheduled date of WrestleMania from 3/28 to 4/11 or even 4/18. The goal remains to have fans in attendance for the event. The thought process of moving back the show a few weeks only helps that out.
