WarnerMedia Praises AEW & Their Expansion Plans for the Company
Entertainment website Variety held a recent interview with several WarnerMedia and AEW executives and talent. Some of the topics discussed included WarnerMedia’s thoughts on AEW’s successes during the coronavirus pandemic and future expansion plans for AEW with their other properties.
On the topic of AEWs successes during the pandemic, Brett Weltz, general manager of TBS, TNT, and truTV, stated:
“I think where where the rubber really met the road was during when COVID hit and watching Tony really pivot and grow. And he was able to keep those storylines going and put so many great things together, even through a global pandemic, and that tells you everything you need to know about the DNA of that brand and that guy as a producer.”
On the topic of future expansion plans for AEW within WarnerMedia, Sam Linsky, senior vice president and co-head of scripted originals for TBS, TNT and truTV stated:
“We have an opportunity to use all facets of WarnerMedia in a way that most places can’t. We’ve got a comic book company. We’ve got video game companies. We’ve got merchandising people. We’ve got people who make animation for television. We’ve got reality television producers. It’s all in house. So we have a real opportunity to spread this IP and grow it across WarnerMedia.”
Kenny Omega Comments on Status of AEW Video Game
GameSpot held a recent interview with Kenny Omega and one of the topics discussed included the current status of AEW’s upcoming video game.
“The status of the video game is that it is currently in development. I can’t say too much more other than I am working very closely creatively with a team. And every few weeks, they have very exciting new things to show us. And I believe that we’re on the right track because I think we have a good team backing us with a lot of very, very good hands that are very capable. And when I can more, I certainly will. And I’m really excited to show the first little bit of footage that we have. So it’s a little ways away. We’re not going to be competing head to head against WWE Battlegrounds anytime soon. But when the game is ready, and when it will release, I think it has a very good chance of standing alone [as] probably the best wrestling product as a video game that you could probably find on the market. That’s the hope anyway.”
In an interesting note, AEW recently filed several new trademarks for a potential video game. Trademarks for “All Elite Wrestling: Elite General Manager” and “Elite GM” were filed on September 10th for video game related purposes. An additional trademark for “AEW: Elite GM” was filed on September 15th for similar purposes.
