Lucha Libre AAA held an official press conference this past Monday discussing their plans for this year’s Triplemania XXVIII event.
While no specific date was announced for the event, the company stated that they are currently planning to hold the event at some point in December. AAA co-owner Dorian Roldan stated that the company also currently has no plans to hold this event in an empty arena setting.
The Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer reported that AAA’s ability to hold this event and with fans in December will only be possible if the current situation with the coronavirus pandemic in Mexico City improves and they get permission from the local government.
In regards to the event’s card, the company announced that Kenny Omega will be defending his AAA Mega Championship against Laredo Kid at the event. Meltzer reported that this match was originally planned to take place at AAA’s Rey de Reyes 2020 event this past March but was cancelled due to coronavirus-related reasons at the time.
The company also announced that they have signed a partnership deal with Marvel and will be debuting several new Marvel-themed masked wrestlers at the event. This will be in the form of a tag team match of Aracno (Spider-Man) & Leyenda Americana (Captain America) vs. Terror Púrpura (Thanos) & Venenoide (Venom). LuchaBlog reported that this deal coincides with recent Funko Pop branded merchandise from the company.
