More on AEW vs. NXT Week 42 Viewership
The July 15th episodes of AEW Dynamite and WWE NXT saw AEW gain a sizeable amount of viewers and snapped NXT’s three-week overall viewership win streak. AEW also maintained their advantage over NXT in terms of key demographic rankings.
AEW Dynamite drew 788,000 viewers on TNT and a #5 ranking in 18-49 demographic while NXT drew 631,000 viewers on USA Network and a #49 ranking in 18-49 demographic.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the key reason for AEW’s victory was due to AEW doing very in the Males 35-49 viewership and stiff sports competition from UFC and NASCAR severely affecting NXT’s Males 18-34 viewership. NXT reportedly suffered their lowest overall viewership since their May 20th episode and their second lowest ever in the key demographic viewership since the move to USA Network. AEW reportedly had their highest key demographic viewership since their May 27th episode.
Meltzer reported that in terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 380,000 viewers and NXT had 186,000 viewers.
AEW Dynamite started off with around 826,000 viewers and their biggest gain of the night was the bulk of the AEW World Championship match of Brian Cage vs. Jon Moxley which gained 64,000 viewers. AEW’s biggest decline of the night was the Hikaru Shida interview segment, Jon Moxley promo segment, and the Allie & Brandi Rhodes vs. MJ Jenkins & Kenzie Paige match which lost 48,000 viewers.
WWE NXT started off with around 693,000 viewers and their biggest gain of the night was the bulk of the NXT Women’s Championship match of Tegan Nox vs. Io Shirai which gained 42,000 viewers. NXT’s biggest decline of the night was the Cameron Grimes vs. Damian Priest match which lost 73,000 viewers.
