As noted before, Impact Wrestling reportedly held a new set of television tapings earlier this week in Nashville, Tennessee. These tapings were meant to provide the company with new content to last for the next two months and cover their Rebellion pay-per-view event, which had been initially cancelled due to coronavirus issues.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the current belief for why Impact was able to hold tapings despite Tennessee being in a shutdown was due to the state’s exemption for the media and Impact claiming that they were performing a television media event.
Meltzer also reported that a big reason for the tapings, besides the need for new content, was that Impact officials also had to fulfill the terms of their current television deal in India, which is based on the company providing a certain number of shows per year for the market. The India television deal is believed to be the largest revenue stream that the company currently has.
In regards to the tapings for Impact’s Rebellion pay-per-view event, Meltzer reported that the biggest problem for the company was current World Champion Tessa Blanchard being unable to leave the state of California for the tapings in Tennessee.
It was also reported that Impact officials originally had plans to hold their tapings at Booker T’s World Gym Arena in Houston, Texas but those plans fell through due to the tapings being scheduled for a later date and the company felt that it was too risky to wait that long due to the current coronavirus situation.
