AEW vs. NXT Week 27 Viewership Update
As noted before, the April 1st episodes of AEW Dynamite and WWE NXT resulted in Dynamite generating around 685,000 viewers on TNT and a #37 ranking in the 18-49 demographic while NXT generated around 590,000 viewers on USA Network and a #74 ranking in 18-49 demographic.
This week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter provided an update that featured the quarter-hour breakdowns and other details that were not available in last week’s issue.
Dave Meltzer reported that the viewership for AEW Dynamite’s lead-in program was 30% lower than last week and TNT had around 647,000 viewers prior to the start of Dynamite compared to USA Network’s 1,012,000 viewers prior to the start of NXT. In regards to the key 18-49 demographic group, AEW had 328,000 viewers compared to 199,000 viewers for NXT. AEW reportedly won every quarter in the 18-49 group and seven out of eight quarters in overall viewership. NXT’s sole overall quarter win was the final quarter featuring the main events for both shows.
AEW Dynamite started off with around 703,000 viewers and their biggest gain of the night was the Jon Moxley and Jake Hager video package and Lance Archer vs. Marko Stunt match which gained 26,000 viewers. AEW’s biggest decline of the night was the Shawn Spears & Sammy Guevara vs. Cody & Darby Allin match which lost 65,000 viewers.
WWE NXT started off with around 668,000 viewers and their biggest gain of the night was the Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano video package and start of the NXT North American Championship Triple Threat match which gained 57,000 viewers. NXT’s biggest decline was the ending of the Velveteen Dream vs. Bobby Fish match, Dream’s post-match promo, and Dexter Lumis vs. Jake Atlas match which lost 68,000 viewers.

The April 8th episodes of AEW Dynamite and WWE NXT saw both shows increase in viewership and NXT managing to top AEW in overall viewership for the first time since the week of December 18th. AEW did manage to maintain their advantage over NXT in the key demographic rankings.
AEW Dynamite drew 692,000 viewers on TNT and a #32 ranking in 18-49 demographic while NXT drew 693,000 viewers on USA Network and a #51 ranking in 18-49 demographic.
The results of the quarter-hour segment breakdowns were not revealed in this week’s issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter but Dave Meltzer reported that NXT’s viewership victory over AEW ended up being by around 400 viewers based on more detailed numbers avaliable. NXT reportedly drew 692,900 viewers while AEW drew 692,500 viewers. Meltzer also reported that the first ten minutes of NXT ended up being the main reason for their viewership win since it was much stronger than AEW Dynamite’s start.
Meltzer also reported that AEW’s biggest increase was with the 35-49 demographic group at a 11.4% increase in viewers and their biggest decrease was with the 18-34 group at 13.3% lower than last week. Due to NXT once again failing to rank in the Top 50, demographic breakdowns were not available but Meltzer reported that NXT saw a 22% increase in viewers for the key 18-49 group.
