More on NJPW Cancelling Sakura Genesis 2020 and Status of Future Events
As noted before, New Japan Pro Wrestling announced last week that they have cancelled this year’s Sakura Genesis event and the first show of their Road to Dontaku 2020 tour due to recent recommendations by the Japanese government.
Dave Meltzer reported in last week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that NJPW officials made the decision to cancel their upcoming events also based on recent recommendations by the governor of the Tokyo prefecture, who had requested for all public events in the area to be closed until April 12th.
Meltzer also reported that NJPW officials have yet to make any official decision regarding the status of this year’s New Japan Cup tournament, which had been cancelled earlier this month.
It was also reported that NJPW officials decided against running events elsewhere for the time being due to them not wanting to get any fans sick nor even wanted to run empty arena shows for similar concerns regarding their talent. NJPW’s next regular event is currently scheduled to take place on April 12th in Hamamatsu while their next major event is scheduled to take place on May 12th, which is the start of the Best of the Super Juniors 2020 tournament.
