WWE announced that “the first-ever WWE women’s match in Saudi Arabia” will take place at WWE Crown Jewel this Thursday.
It’ll be Lacey Evans vs. Natalya. Both wrestlers will very likely be wearing outfits that cover their bodies.
In June, Alexa Bliss and Natalya were flown to Saudi Arabia in the hope that they would be able to have a match at Super ShowDown, but after some back and forth, the match was not allowed by the Saudi government.
WWE is pushing this match as a “historic” moment and their spin has always been that their deal with Saudi Arabia will allow them to “push for change.” But the reason why the Saudi government is paying WWE millions of dollars per show is because this is all part of a propaganda campaign to help soften their image, and this women’s wrestling match will also be used to help the Saudi government appear “more progressive” and help whitewash their general record on women’s rights, which is still the worst of any country in the world.
Crown Jewel will air on the WWE Network tomorrow at 1 PM ET.
