Lucha Libre AAA reportedly generated around 60 traditional pay-per-view buys and a very low amount of iPPV buys for their Invading NY event this past Sunday in New York City, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s issue that the early traditional PPV numbers included several heavy Hispanic markets and based on some estimates, the real nationwide number might actually be lower. While no actual number was given for early iPPV buys, Meltzer reported that he was told it was a “very low number.”
Invading NY reportedly drew a live attendance of around 3,000 at the Hulu Theater. AAA officials reportedly had been initially expecting an attendance of around 12,000 for Madison Square Garden before very poor ticket sales led to the event’s venue being changed.
Meltzer also reported that AAA officials had plans for an additional twenty wrestlers and referees to appear at the event before those plans were dropped due to lingering visa issues. With the exception of Dave the Clown, all of the performers on the show were either regular workers in the United States or had their visas taken care of years ago through Lucha Underground or other U.S.-based promotions.
