NJPW announced that Will Ospreay suffered a neck injury and will miss today’s G1 Climax show in Hokkaido, Japan.
In a message on their website, NJPW said, “Will Ospreay has suffered a neck injury and will miss action on Monday July 15 in Hokkaido. Ospreay is not suffering from any skeletal or nervous issues. His status for the next G1 Climax event on Thursday July 18 will be determined after Ospreay undergoes thorough medical evaluation. We sincerely apologise to fans who were looking forward to seeing Ospreay wrestle, and appreciate your understanding.”
Ospreay was scheduled to be in a six man tag team match (Will Ospreay, Yota Tsuji & Yuya Uemura vs. Kota Ibushi, Shota Umino & Jushin Thunder Liger), which will be changed to a four man tag match (Kota Ibushi & Jushin Thunder Liger vs. Shota Umino & Yota Tsuji).
It’s not clear when the injury happened, but he last wrestled on Sunday in a win against SANADA.
Ospreay said that he’s in “a huge amount of pain right now” and will “do my best to continue the G1.”
Sorry I couldn’t make it out there guys. I’m in a huge amount of pain right now but New Japan is giving me all the best treatment and taking great care of my health.
I’ll do my best to continue the G1. https://t.co/pSVsh82sqW
