Sasha Banks reportedly requested a release from WWE this past weekend, according to the Wrestling Observer and Fightful.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Banks was originally scheduled to appear at this week’s episode of RAW and Tuesday’s episode of the Wendy Williams Show but was not at both scheduled events. It was reported that Wendy Williams Show officials were furious over her pulling out at the last minute but Williams said during Wednesday’s episode that Banks’ absence was due to a “family emergency.”
Meltzer reported that Banks attempted to quit WWE over WrestleMania weekend due to frustrations regarding last minute plans for the Women’s Tag Team Championship match at WrestleMania 35. It was reported that Banks originally assumed that Bayley and herself would be given the chance to have a strong run with the tag team championship in order to establish its credibility as a prestigious title in the company. Banks reportedly felt blindsided by the last minute decision to award the IIconics with the championship at WrestleMania. Meltzer also reported that prior to WrestleMania, both Banks and Bayley assumed that the the on-going storyline of them defending the belts across RAW, SmackDown, and NXT would mean that they would have a longer reign.
Both Meltzer and Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp reported that WWE officials have given Banks a few weeks to reconsider her future in the company but it is currently not expected that her release will be granted.
Sapp also reported that Bayley has also been very frustrated by this entire ordeal involving the decision at WrestleMania and Banks’ current situation.
In regards to potential plans prior to Banks’ situation, Sapp reported that WWE was considering plans for Alexa Bliss to feud with both Banks and Bayley and to get the upper-hand over both as part of her in-ring return to the RAW.
