WWE’s Fastlane Plans Update
As noted before, WWE planned for Kofi Kingston to face Daniel Bryan for the WWE Championship at this month’s Fastlane event in Cleveland, Ohio, but plans were changed to Kevin Owens vs. Daniel Bryan following Vince McMahon’s surprise announcement during this week’s episode of SmackDown.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the official decision to replace Kingston with Owens for Bryan’s match at Fastlane was made by Vince McMahon late last week. Meltzer speculated that WWE might now be considering the idea of having Kofi Kingston face Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 35 due to Owens being originally planned as Bryan’s WrestleMania opponent.
WrestleMania 35 Plans Update
In regards to WrestleMania 35 itself, Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that WWE still has plans for both John Cena and Kurt Angle to compete at this year’s event but at the moment, the Undertaker is still not scheduled to be on the card.
Meltzer also reported that as of this week, WWE has yet to finalize plans for the majority of the card, making it the latest this situation has happened in recent memory.
The decision to officially go ahead with Batista vs. Triple H for the event reportedly was only finalized this past week due to Batista not being signed to an official contract prior to late last week. Meltzer reported that WWE also considered the idea of Batista facing off against The Undertaker at WrestleMania 35.
It was also reported that WWE is currently considering the idea of holding several multi-person matches on the card.
The official decision on which match will go on last likely will not be made until the week of the event itself. At the moment, it is speculated that the RAW Women’s Championship match will go on last due to WWE promoting the idea of this year’s WrestleMania making history by featuring the first ever women’s main event match.
