In-Ring: Johnny Gargano, Tommaso Ciampa, Velveteen Dream
North American Champion Johnny Gargano makes his way to the ring. Garagano says he likes the sound of “Johnny Champion” and it feels so great to be standing here as NXT North American Champion. For years, we have been on this long and winding journey in NXT. Johnny says they deserve it. At Takeover, we were validated when he won this. He says he is your NXT North American Champion and he says Johnny Wrestling is back.
NXT Men’s Champion Tommaso Ciampa makes his way to the stage. Tommaso says he is not out here to take from Johnny’s moment. He is here to celebrate his moment. At Takeover, you showed the entire world what he already knew. You know how to listen and you followed the champ’s lead. Look at you in the ring with the North American Championship while Ciampa has the NXT Championship. They own the world. This is everything we used to talk about. This is the dream we talked about when we were trying to get into NXT. The sight of us standing side by side holding gold . . . we showed that this is our moment.
Johnny says no. There is no ‘our’ moment. The only reason he came out at the end of Takeover was to show you face to face that Johnny Gargano will never need Tommaso Ciampa.
Velveteen Dream’s music plays and he makes his way to the stage while Ciampa moves down the ramp. Dream says this is cute. DIY, champions once again. Let us not forget that tonight is not about your moment or Gollum and his precious Goldie. It is not about Johnny Badass. It is about the man who stole the moment at Takeover just by showing up. Let us not forget that while you were putting the final touches on your fairy tale ending, he was winning the Worlds Collide tournament. Dream says he has earned an NXT Championship opportunity of his choosing and guess who he chooses.
Dream walks up to Ciampa and tells him to back up because he sees the lust in your eyes for the Dream. Do you want to share the spotlight with the Dream again? The Dream is over . . . you. Dream says he does not want Ciampa. Dream walks into the ring and he says he wants Gargano.
Johnny asks Dream if he wants this. He says since Dream is so preoccupied with himself. While you were busy sitting in the crowd, Johnny was in the ring putting on another match of the year. He was winning the NXT North American Championship. The next night, he represented NXT in front of over 40,000 people in the Royal Rumble match. He is on top of the world and he is feeling a little dangerous. If you want to use your title opportunity on him, do it. Johnny says he wins.
Dream says he wants to know when they are face to face and it is Johnny Gargano versus Velveteen Dream, will it be Johnny Wrestling or Johnny Jackass? Dream tells Gargano his time is short while Gargano leaves the ring. Gargano looks at Ciampa and Goldie and Ciampa goes to the back.
