There is a “very good chance” that Ronda Rousey could be finishing up with WWE at or shortly after WrestleMania, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
But the Observer also noted that she will “probably” still be affiliated with WWE afterwards and it’s always possible that she could have a role similar to The Undertaker or John Cena, where she comes back part time for certain shows.
As of now, though, they say that Rousey’s future hasn’t been officially decided yet, but the feeling within WWE is that she will likely be done as a full time performer at or shortly after WrestleMania. There was talk within WWE this past week about if WrestleMania will be it, or if she’ll do the PPV after WrestleMania. There could always be a Brock Lesnar type of situation where Vince McMahon makes her a great offer to extend her deal.
When Rousey signed last year, the plan was always that Rousey would make a full-time commitment to WWE for about one year with WrestleMania being her finishing date, the Observer says, even though WWE announced at the time that she signed a “multi-year” deal. When Rousey signed in January of 2018, she said, “This is my life now. First priority on my timeline for the next several years.” Last June, Ric Flair said that Rousey only actually signed a one year deal, saying, “I think Ronda has only signed a one year deal and then she wants to get out of there. She wants to have kids and all that.”
This year’s likely WrestleMania main event is Rousey vs. Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair, with WWE wanting both Becky and Charlotte to be the first women to headline WrestleMania.
Update
TMZ weighed in on the story, saying that a WWE spokesperson told them, “Ronda Rousey is under contract with WWE until April 10, 2021. Whether she wants to start a family is a private matter.”
Pro Wrestling Sheet also added that when Rousey signed her WWE contract, WWE agreed that she could take time away if she wanted to start a family. And around Survivor Series, Rousey told WWE that she was likely going to take a break to do that after WrestleMania. But Pro Wrestling Sheet also said that this is not set in stone yet.
Whatever the case, it does sound like she’ll be at least taking a break for a while soon and if she does decide to come back later, it may not be as a full time wrestler.
