Dean Ambrose reportedly will be leaving WWE after WrestleMania 35, according to PWTorch.
PWTorch’s Wade Keller reported that Ambrose informed WWE officials last weekend that he will not be signing a new contract with the company and will be leaving once his current deal expires at the end of this April. It was also reported that Ambrose had turned down a new contract offer by WWE several weeks ago, which included a pay raise as part of its terms.
Ambrose is currently expected to finish up shortly after WrestleMania 35 but could be written out sooner depending on WWE’s plans.
Keller also reported that Ambrose had been frustrated over the direction of his character and career in the company for a long while and had reached the breaking point recently. Ambrose reportedly made his intentions clear to WWE officials that he was no longer interested in negotiating and that his decision was not related to money.
Keller reported that one of his sources stated that Ambrose is “pretty much impossible to read” in regards to him showing any prior signs of discontent. The same source also stated that Ambrose “hates hokey s***” which is how he may have felt his character has been portrayed in recent years.
Only WWE’s top management and a small circle of Ambrose’s friends reportedly knew of his decision prior to Monday’s episode of RAW.
Update
WWE released the following statement to media and on WWE.com:
“Dean Ambrose (Jonathan Good) will not be renewing his contract with WWE when it expires in April. We are grateful and appreciative of all that Dean has given to WWE and our fans. We wish him well and hope that one day Dean will return to WWE.”
