The expected UFC fight between Brock Lesnar and UFC Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier might not happen after all.
In an interview with ESPN, Daniel Cormier said that he has just two fights left in his career and Lesnar might not be one of them. Cormier has repeatedly said that he plans on retiring before he turns 40 in March.
One of those final two fights will be against Derrick Lewis at UFC 230 on November 3. For the second fight, Cormier said that he likely will have a choice between either his rival Jon Jones or Brock Lesnar.
“Counting the Lewis fight, I think I’m down to two fights left,” Cormier said. “Right now, I think I have this one and maybe one more. I can still fight in March and hit my retirement date.
“The one opponent that would matter to me most is Jones, because he’s beaten me twice. The one that would mean more financially would be Lesnar. I think I would always pick the one that means more, but my wife might have something to say about that.”
A Cormier vs. Jon Jones fight would also seemingly depend on if Jon Jones wins his scheduled fight against Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 232 on December 29. Cormier said that he was given a choice to face the winner of that fight, which is for the UFC Light Heavyweight title.
UFC did an angle with Lesnar and Cormier in July at UFC 226, where Daniel Cormier called out Lesnar after Cormier’s win and Lesnar got into the octagon and shoved Cormier, then challenged him to a fight.
Lesnar has been training for another UFC fight and re-entered the USADA drug testing pool in August.
