Crown Jewel is just over a week away and a final decision about whether or not WWE will be going to Saudi Arabia has apparently still not been made.
It was reported yesterday that the show is in jeopardy and that there was pressure on Vince McMahon from “outside forces” to move the show from Saudi Arabia. It was also rumored that WWE was scouting possible venue replacements for the show. Also, tickets have not yet gone on sale in Saudi Arabia and the ticket seller said that WWE had not yet confirmed that the show will go on.
The Wrap is now reporting that a decision about Saudi Arabia may be coming as soon as today and that WWE was waiting for Turkey to release details about its investigation into the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi. Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan gave a statement about the incident yesterday, calling it a “premeditated murder” and called for “everyone, from the one giving the order to the one who carried it out” to be held to account. However, he largely re-iterated a lot of the details that have already been released and called for further investigations.
Despite everything, as of this week, WWE staff was still making plans to travel to Saudi Arabia and everyone was under the impression that the show was still going on, since WWE management had not announced anything yet, according to PWInsider. The first set of WWE staff members who are working the show are scheduled to travel to Saudi Arabia within the next day, and the remainder are scheduled to go after next week’s TV shows.
So if something is going to change, WWE is going to have to make the decision very soon.
