Various: Michael Cole on His WWE Dream Goal, Rey Mysterio Update, Indies

Michael Cole Comments on His Dream Goal as WWE’s Head of Commentary

As noted before, WWE announced the broadcasting schedule and commentary team for this year’s Mae Young Classic tournament. Among the biggest changes was the replacement of Jim Ross with Michael Cole as the lead commentator for this year’s tournament.

ESPN held a recent interview with Michael Cole and one of the topics discussed involved Cole’s dream goal as the head of WWE’s commentary division and how this year’s Mae Young Classic tournament is one step closer to his goal.

“A few years ago I was put in charge of all of the announcers in the company. My goal when I took over was to have, for the first time, a full-time female commentator on one of our main shows. That is still my goal today and it led to, for the first time, having two women in the announcing booth for the Mae Young Classic. It blows me away that this is happening because as little as two years ago I would not have seen this happening.”

Another Rey Mysterio WWE Update

As noted before, Rey Mysterio has been in talks with WWE about a possible return to the company since competing at this year’s Royal Rumble event. Mysterio himself revealed in an official press conference last June in San Diego, California that he was negotiating for a three year deal with the company.

In an update to Rey Mysterio’s WWE contract talks, the Miami Herald held a recent interview with Mysterio and one of the topics discussed involved the current status of the talks.

“We started off with the Royal Rumble at the beginning of the year in January. There was another offer on the table to do the Greatest Royal Rumble, and in between those two events, we’ve been going back and forth in conversations, trying to work out the right deal. It’s still up in the air. Nothing [is] secure, yet.”
