Vince McMahon specifically gave an order to the WWE creative and production teams to not mention Brock Lesnar on this past Monday’s Raw, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. His directive, which he gave at a production meeting before the show, was that the show should completely focus on building towards Extreme Rules and since Lesnar isn’t on the PPV, his name was not to be mentioned and WWE will start mentioning him again “when he’s being offered to our audience and we can capitalize on it.” Lesnar was of course involved in big way at UFC 226 this past weekend.
McMahon is also reportedly adamant about creating the idea that Lesnar is walking out on WWE to go to the UFC and “turning his back on WWE fans,” which is of course what they tried to do before WrestleMania in order to get fans to get behind Roman Reigns against Lesnar. The idea failed pretty badly and just led to fans hating both guys instead and making Lesnar way less over.
Lesnar is under WWE contract until at least after SummerSlam in August and he’s expected to drop the title then (but who knows at this point…). He’ll likely face the winner of the Roman Reigns vs. Bobby Lashley match at Extreme Rules, with Reigns being the obvious favorite to face Lesnar again. And of course Braun Strowman is looming with his Money in the Bank briefcase, so it seems like only a matter of time until WWE finally puts the title on him.
