NBC Sports held a recent interview with Jeff Jarrett discussing Vince McMahon firing him on live television, being inducted into WWE’s Hall of Fame, thoughts on AJ Styles, and more.
On the topic of Vince McMahon firing him on live television during the final episode of WCW Nitro, Jarrett stated he was not upset and still got paid for the remaining months left on his contract at the time.
“Vince does a lot of things well. And he knows how to produce great TV. To me that night was just good TV.
It’s a business and I knew that I was going to be getting paid on my Turner contract for about another eight or nine months, so I didn’t even think to address it that night.”
On the topic of being inducted into WWE’s Hall of Fame, Jarrett stated he feels very honored to be chosen by the WWE and is excited to have the opportunity to publicly thank everyone who helped him during his career and life.
“It’s a humbling honor and I will be accepting it on behalf of just not myself, but my wife Karen, who has had to go through ups and downs. My dad, my stepmom, my uncle, who just passed away. My grandfather, my grandmother on the other side of my family.
It’s a three generation business, so I’m accepting it for everyone in my family because it is a family business. That is something that is so humbling to me. I’m the one who got picked, but it’s really an award for the entire Jarrett family.”
While discussing more about WWE’s Hall of Fame, Jarrett stated being inducted during the same weekend as AJ Styles defending his WWE Championship will be a perfect moment for him personally. He considers Styles to be longtime friend going back to their time together during the early days of TNA.
“I don’t believe in coincidences, only convergences and AJ headlining and me going into the Hall of Fame is perfect. He’s been a friend since the early days of our relationship and it’s been great to watch him progress as a performer. I can’t say enough about the guy.”
Other topics discussed during the interview included how different his career could have been if he wasn’t fired by Vince in 2001, his reaction when he found out he was going into WWE’s Hall of Fame, and the coincidence of being inducted on the same day as the start of his career 32 years ago.
