Vince McMahon Officially Announces the Return of the XFL in 2020

Vince McMahon announced in the following press conference video today that the XFL will return in 2020.

Here are a few highlights from the press conference:

– The game will be shorter, faster and easier to understand. He wants games to be about two hours long and they may eliminate half time.

– There will be 8 teams with a 40 man roster. Cities are “nowhere near” being chosen yet, but they will likely be cities with NFL teams already, where there are already football stadiums, though that doesn’t mean they couldn’t also play in baseball stadiums.

– Teams will likely have new names, but he didn’t rule out bringing back old names.

– There will be a 10 game season.

– There are no TV partners yet.

– When asked why he was bringing it back now, Vince said that the demand was there and there are 7 months a year without football.

– There will be no crossover with WWE wrestlers or announcers.

– Vince said that this will not affect his role with WWE and he would hire executives to handle everything and this could even be the last time we see him talking about the XFL.

– Vince said that he wants the game to be safer and would speak to medical experts regarding how to keep players safe from concussions, etc.

– When asked, Vince said that the national anthem is a tradition and players were expected to abide by whatever the rules of the league are. He said that he doesn’t want the league to be political, and players should keep politics and social issues to their social media accounts and there will be rules that players will be expected to follow. When asked if Trump would support the league, he said he doesn’t know whether or not he would.

– When asked if he would consider Colin Kaepernick, Vince said that everyone was welcome as long as they followed the rules.

– Vince said that the biggest difference in the XFL is that they will listen to what fans want.
