WWE’s current hope and plan for WrestleMania is Ronda Rousey & The Rock vs. Stephanie McMahon & Triple H, according to Dave Meltzer.
The issue, however, is whether or not WWE will be able to bring in The Rock for the match. He has not been able to do much wrestling for the past few years due to insurance reasons, with movies that he has signed onto not wanting him to risk injury. The Rock wrestled John Cena at WrestleMania 29 in 2013 and suffered a torn muscle in that match, which delayed filming of “Hercules.” The Rock then wrestled a quick “match” against Erick Rowan at WrestleMania 32 in 2016 where he just hit him with a Rock Bottom and immediately pinned him.
WWE originally wanted the Rousey/Rock vs. Stephanie/HHH match at WrestleMania 32, and they did an angle with the four of them at WrestleMania 31 that was supposed to set up the match, but the plans fell through. Word was that Rousey was shooting a movie and that UFC president Dana White was rumored to not want her wrestling while she was under contract with the UFC. The Rock, meanwhile, was dealing with the insurance issues.
Rousey actually did go to Colombia to shoot the “Mile 22” movie, but she returned on a private plane on Saturday, according to PWInsider.
Rousey has been training at the WWE Performance Center for months.
