On Raw tonight, WWE announced that the first ever women’s Royal Rumble match will take place at the Royal Rumble PPV on January 28.
During the Raw main event between Absolution and Sasha Banks, Mickie James, and Bayley a brawl erupted after the match, with the Raw women’s locker room emptying. Stephanie McMahon then came out to calm things down, then make the big announcement, leading to a “YES” chant from the crowd.
WWE announced in a press release that the winner will “receive a championship opportunity at WrestleMania 34 this April.” That would seem to imply that the Raw and SmackDown Women’s Champions would not be part of the Royal Rumble match.
No further specific details have been given yet, but at least the Raw and SmackDown rosters will be involved, which would be somewhere around 20 women. We’ll see if they decide to make it 30 women and throw in a few NXT wrestlers.
