As previously reported, Chris Jericho made a surprise appearance during last Sunday’s NJPW Power Struggle event and issued a challenge to Kenny Omega for a match at next year’s Wrestle Kingdom 12 event.
In an update to this situation, Pro Wrestling Sheet’s Ryan Satin reported that Jericho had been in talks with New Japan since August in regards to a potential match with Kenny Omega at Wrestle Kingdom 12. Jericho’s upcoming boat cruise called “Chris Jericho’s Rock ‘N’ Wrestling Rager at Sea” also likely played a role in this deal.
Satin also reported that Jericho initially contacted WWE, specifically Triple H, both to see if they were willing to be a partner for his cruise and if they would be willing to lend some NXT talent for the event’s wrestling portion. WWE rejected both offers even after Jericho stated he was covering everything out of his own pockets. After months of talks, Jericho decided to contact both NJPW and ROH instead to see if they were interested, and they were. This lead to NJPW starting talks with Jericho over the possibility of him wrestling at next year’s Wrestle Kingdom.
The failed talks with WWE regarding the boat cruise is also rumored to be a possible reason why Jericho has not seemed as interested as before to work for WWE again, since NJPW and ROH were more helpful towards this outside project.
