2k released the changes to Universe mode in 2k18 and they are… Minimal. Looking through the entry, we now have ‘rivalry intensity’ which ranges from ‘light’ which is a friendly rivalry and ‘very high’ which can result in characters attacking each other outside of matches. This can be set by the player so a rivalry can be very high from the start. Also added is a feature called ‘potential rivalries’ which will be rivalries that can be added once there is a spare slot, as you can still only have 3 rivalries per show.
The final change to rivalries is individuals having goals they want to achieve, which again can be player set. That sounds interesting to me in my head depending on what type of goals you can set, but the example they use in the update is for The Usos V New Day and it’s just about defending or winning the belts. If you could set it that say Kofi wants to be the one getting the pin and have bit of rivalry within the tag team, it could make things very interesting if the AI reacts accordingly.
The biggest change in my eyes is the calendar, which now more accurately takes into account the brand split. Rivalries now no longer have to start the show after a PPV and end at a PPV. This will need to be tested, but in my head, this now means that you can have the NXT brand only have 4 Takeover events a year and this will now work as it should. Other changes noted are a power rankings screen, showing how everyone ranks across shows and that 8-man matches as well as your custom matches are booked within Universe mode.
Alongside this news, the embargo for people who went to the preview event is up and that means users can now post videos about the game. 2 such videos are below with a Royal Rumble match being played out and the first 40 minutes of career mode.
