Ring of Honor announced Kenny Omega will make another appearance for the company on November 17th for the first night of Survival of the Fittest pay-per-view event. This show will be directly competing against NXT’s house show in the same city as part of their lead-in to November 18th’s TakeOver: War Games event in Houston.
ROH’s parent company Sinclair Broadcasting is reported to be one step closer to purchasing Tribune Media after Sinclair’s investors recently voted in favor of a $3.9 billion purchase. Once finalized, ROH would potentially gain 42 new television markets and be shown in 39 out of the Top 50 markets in the United States.
New Japan Pro Wrestling recently announced they sold out of international tickets being sold from their official English websites for Wrestle Kingdom 12 with more tickets to be released for sale within the near future.
The Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer reported the official reason for Impact Wrestling’s upcoming set of shows in Ottawa, Canada is due to the arena hosting the events giving a very favorable deal to the company. The television tapings are currently planned to occur from November 6th to November 10th and Impact is currently offering a 50% Off discount for tickets. Meltzer also reported current ring announcer Dave Penzer is expected to be released soon by the company due to budget cuts with someone from the local Canadian indies to be hired instead.
WWE News & Notes
The previously delayed episode of Table For 3 featuring Ric Flair as a guest is currently speculated to air after next Monday’s episode of RAW, according to PWInsider. This episode was originally planned to air in August prior to Flair’s health problems causing it to be delayed twice by the WWE.
As previously reported, WWE will be holding a special episode of RAW on January 22, 2018 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the show. Besides the special episode, PWInsider reports WWE will also be releasing a 25th Anniversary of RAW DVD set next year as part of the celebrations.
NHL’s Philadelphia Flyers have recently started a new tradition this season involving the MVP of each game getting to wear a replica Ric Flair robe as a reward for the achievement and for official post-game photos.
The WWE Shop recently added several holiday themed merchandise for sale including ugly Christmas sweaters for several notable WWE stars, Christmas tree ornaments, Santa hats, and stocking stuffers.
Lucha Underground News & Notes
While the Season 3 finale of Lucha Underground included a “To Be Continued” message at the end of the show, this week’s issue of the Observer Newsletter stated there have been no new progress on the status of a potential fourth season for the company.
During a recent episode of The Midweek War podcast show with Lucha Underground’s producer and writer Christopher DeJoseph as the guest, DeJoseph revealed the company currently has plans to continue the Prince Puma character for future seasons. It likely won’t involve Ricochet due to his contract expiring after the end of Season 3 and him being vocal about wanting to go to the WWE instead. DeJoseph also stated the future status of Sexy Star in the company will be determined by management within the near future.
During a recent episode of the Masks, Mats & Mayhem podcast show with Lucha Underground writer Chris Roach as the guest, Roach revealed the main reason why Sexy Star became Lucha Underground champion in Season 3 was only due to them wanting Johnny Mundo to get as much cheap heel heat as possible to start off his title reign. The company never had any long term plans for her as champion but needed an easy way to build a lot of crowd heat for Mundo and to make Pentagon Dark’s championship victory at Ultima Lucha Tres a lot more meaningful.
