For what it’s worth, the garbage UK tabloid, The Sun, which sometimes just makes stories up, is saying that WWE and Conor McGregor are “close” to reaching a deal that would see McGregor wrestle at WrestleMania.
SunSport understands that a deal is close with WWE top brass but the match is likely to be delayed until next year — with a possibility of him appearing in April’s Wrestlemania event.
A source said: “This is something he’s always wanted to do.
“The WWE guys have asked him to do shows before with them but the timing was never really right.
“But this time it looks like a deal is going to be locked into place.
“He has some things to tie up in the UFC before he can do anything else but this is a big money deal so I can’t see him turning it down.”
McGregor has long been rumored to make an appearance in WWE and it’s no secret that WWE wants him, but the money offer would likely have to be pretty big. Stephanie McMahon recently said that she feels he would be a “perfect fit” for WWE.
“I think Conor would be a perfect fit for WWE,” McMahon said, speaking at a Leaders in Sports convention at Stamford Bridge. “He certainly has the personality, the athletic ability, the appeal. He speaks his mind, he is very genuine and authentic and he has a hell of a Vince McMahon swagger.”
Earlier this year, in an interview with FOX Sports, McGregor said that WWE has made him offers and there were “conversations still ongoing.”
“Never say never. I know there’s been conversations,” McGregor revealed when speaking about the WWE. “I know Triple H was at the show (UFC 205). I’d love to go to that WWE and have a real knock. Let one of them have a real knock and see what’s what. We’ll see.
“There’s conversations ongoing. I’ve turned down some things, conversations still ongoing.”
