This week on the Dan Le Batard Show, Dana White was asked about the possibility of Brock Lesnar fighting in the UFC. White said that WWE did not want Lesnar to fight while he was still under contract, which he said was until August 2018:
“Lesnar was still under contract with WWE til next August. Who knows what would have happened. I don’t count my chickens anymore, I’ll tell you that.
“They didn’t want to do that again. You saw what happened last time he was under contract and it doesn’t look good for anybody.”
Lesnar’s final wrestling date on his current contract is actually WrestleMania or possibly the Raw the night after, Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. However, there may be a buffer period until August 2018 until the contract officially expires.
There is a renewal option in the contract though, and as of right now, the expectation is that Lesnar, who will be 41 years old, will re-sign with WWE rather than leave for the UFC again.
The Jon Jones failed drug test obviously changed everything, since there was a ton of hype and potential money to be made from a Jones vs. Lesnar fight, but now Jones’ career could possibly be over after a potential multi-year suspension. The expectation right now is that the Lesnar vs. Jones fight will never happen, Dave Meltzer says, so re-signing with WWE seems like the most likely route for Lesnar.
