In-Ring: Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn
Owens grabs a mic and asks where Shane McMahon is. “I’ve been called a coward for what I did to Vince McMahon. I’ve been called a coward for not being at Smackdown Live last week.” Owens says he is here tonight and standing in the middle of the ring of opportunity. He again asks where Shane is. Owens suggests maybe Shane is the coward. He respects Vince McMahon. Owens says just imagine what he will do to someone he doesn’t.
Here comes Sami Zayn to interrupt. Sami grabs a mic and asks Owens what is wrong with him. He isn’t out here to fight. Sami says Owens has lost complete control. He talks about knowing Owens for 15 years and knows when he snaps, it never ends well and he realized once again that Owens snapped by headbutting Vince McMahon. Sami warns Owens he is about to cross a line he never has before at Hell in a Cell against Shane.
He tells Owens he needs to stop right now. Owens disagrees and says he is cool. He knows Sami isn’t really out here to talk sense into him. Owens suggests he has outshined Sami once again and points out how much more successful his WWE career has been. He says Sami should watch Hell in a Cell if he thinks he’s already gone too far. Owens asks Sami what he has ever done in his life that left the same impact he did on the skull of Vince McMahon. Sami agrees with Owens’ assessment of his WWE career, but points out Owens took a lot of shortcuts and he will get his break the right way. He said the biggest difference between them is that when he looks in the mirror he doesn’t see a giant piece of trash looking back at him. Owens drops his mic. Sami drops his. Here comes Smackdown General Manager Daniel Bryan. Bryan says he isn’t sure if Shane will be here tonight, but he knows someone that is here that would love to fight him. He books Owens vs. Zayn.
Baron Corbin vs. Tye Dillinger
Before the match officially begins, WWE United States Champion AJ Styles walks out. Styles joins Tom Phillips, Corey Graves and Byron Saxton on commentary.
Dillinger dumps Corbin over the top rope before the match begins as we head to a break. Dillinger with a small package for a two count. Dillinger with knees, but Corbin counters with a chokeslam backbreaker. Dillinger catches Corbin with a boot in the corner. Dillinger drops his knee off the face of Corbin getting a two count off a pinfall attempt. On the outside, Corbin charges and hits the steel steps shoulder first. Dillinger tosses Corbin back inside. Corbin avoids a Tye Breaker and rolls out. Corbin throws water in the face of Styles at ringside and then tosses Dillinger into Styles over the announce table. Corbin slides back inside the ring. The referee starts the count. Dillinger is crawling. The referee gets to 10.
Winner via count out: Baron Corbin
After the match, Baron Corbin with a cheap shot on Tye Dillinger. AJ Styles jumps inside the ring and Corbin bails immediately. Styles is yelling at Corbin to come back. Corbin grabs a mic and asks Styles if he feels dumb. He knew Dillinger and Styles would work together. Corbin says Styles can’t defend his title against him one-on-one. He challenges Styles to a United States Championship match at the Hell in a Cell PPV. After commercials, Styles vs. Corbin for the WWE United States Championship is confirmed for the Smackdown-only Hell in a Cell PPV in two weeks on October 8.
In-Ring: Jinder Mahal and Shinsuke Nakamura
WWE Champion Jinder Mahal is already in the ring with The Singh Brothers. He talks about his opponent at Hell in a Cell in two weeks: Shinsuke Nakamura. Mahal admits he might have gone a little too far last week. The crowd starts a loud “NAKAMURA” chant. Mahal says he respects Nakamura and finds him to a be a worthy opponent.
He plans to show respect to Nakamura this week. Mahal has a photo of Nakamura after he made his comments last week. A face of Nakamura smiling is put up on the screen. The Singh Brothers continue to laugh like hyenas near Mahal.
When he puts up another picture of Nakamura to mock him, it is actually live video of Nakamura and he tells Mahal he is looking at him live. The lights go out. Here comes Nakamura. The crowd in Glendale sings along to his theme as he heads to the ring.
The Singh Brothers bail and go after Nakamura. Mahal joins in attacking Nakamura. Mahal tosses Nakamura in the ring. Nakamura with knees and a spin kick to the head. Nakamura with knees and elbows to The Singh Brothers. Nakamura kicks Mahal in the head and connects with the Kinshasa. Mahal rolls out of the ring clutching the WWE Championship.
The Usos vs. The Hype Bros
We start with Mojo Rawley and Jey Uso. Mojo with a few shots. Tag to Jimmy who keeps Mojo grounded. Tag to Zack Ryder who clears house on The Usos. Ryder with a face plant on Jimmy. Jimmy gets an elbow up and takes out Mojo on the corner. Ryder with a big neckbreaker on Jimmy for a two count. Ryder with double knees to the chest of Jimmy. Mojo tags himself in. Ryder isn’t happy about this. Jimmy sends Mojo into Ryder who falls to the outside. Jimmy with a superkick to Mojo and tag to Jey. Jey goes up top and connects with a splash off the top rope. Jey gets the cover for the pinfall.
Winners: The Usos
After the match, The Usos walk up to The New Day who are sitting front row. The Usos think that is where New Day actually belongs. Big E had a mic in his popcorn and hands it to Kofi Kingston. Kingston says they are talking pretty big for just losing the titles. Xavier Woods suggests they defend the titles inside Hell in a Cell. The Usos smile at this suggestion. They back off as New Day dance and mock them in the crowd.
Rusev’s Pride of Bulgaria Celebration
Aiden English is in the ring and introduces Rusev, singing the Bulgaria national anthem. Rusev walks out and heads to the ring holding a Bulgarian flag. Rusev stands up on a stand with the Bulgarian flag over it. The mayor of the town where Rusev is from gets on the mic and reads a statement in Bulgarian. He presents Rusev with a key to the city of Plovdiv. The mayor also proclaims this day – September 26 – Rusev Day. The mayor presents Rusev with the key to the city and Rusev holds it up smiling.
Rusev has footage played of his quick victory over Randy Orton last week. Back live, he describes that as the law of the jungle. Rusev talks about Orton being known as a “Legend Killer” back in the day and how he took everyone out early in his career. Now he is the one to rip the fangs out of the vipers mouth. “I am the one who destroyed the legend of the legend killer. So Smackdown Live, it’s my jungle now.”
Aiden English has prepared a song in honor of Rusev Day. As English is singing the song, Rusev is still standing up on the podium and smiling. RKO out of no where when Orton jumps in the ring and connects on English. RKO on Rusev as well. Orton celebrates.
Backstage: Sami Zayn and Daniel Bryan
Backstage, Daniel Bryan informs Sami Zayn that Shane McMahon is on his way and that he wants to go after Owens. Sami asks Daniel if he can tell Shane to hold off tonight and that he already has him in a match at Hell in a Cell in two weeks. He wants tonight. Bryan agrees and says he will talk to Shane about it. “Kevin is all yours.”
Backstage: Randy Orton
Backstage, Randy Orton tells Renee Young to inform Rusev that if he wants to step inside “his jungle” that they can do it at Hell in a Cell. He wishes her a Happy Rusev Day.
Charlotte Flair vs. Carmella w/ James Ellsworth
Charlotte with a takedown early on Carmella including a big boot. James Ellsworth holds the leg of Charlotte in the corner. Ellsworth is tied to the corner by a leash by the way. Carmella is tossing elbows to keep Charlotte grounded. Carmella goes up top and connects with a cross body into a cover for a two count on Charlotte. Carmella with another cover, gets a two count and then kicks Charlotte face first into the corner. Carmella catches Charlotte with a reverse DDT and is not happy when Charlotte kicks out again. Carmella with a roll up. Charlotte kicks out, big boots Carmella and picks up the pinfall.
Winner: Charlotte Flair
After the match, WWE Smackdown Women’s Champion Natalya comes out and is happy to know that Charlotte’s father Ric Flair is recovering well. Nothing makes her happier to know that he gets to watch his “overrated daughter” fail at Hell in a Cell.
In-Ring: Dolph Ziggler and Bobby Roode
The bells hit and the lights go out in Glendale. Dolph Ziggler walks out dressed like The Undertaker and begins laughing when he reaches the ring. A loud “YOU SUCK” chant starts up at Ziggler. He says it looks like everyone saw a ghost. Ziggler asks if they really thought they’d see The Undertaker two times in one year. “Anyone can put on a Halloween costume and hobble on down here like a zombie. Anyone can do it. But no one can do what I do in this ring. No one.” Ziggler says this crowd still doesn’t care.
Here comes Bobby Roode to interrupt. Roode grabs a mic and says Ziggler is a very talented in-ring competitor. He also accuses Ziggler of being a hypocrite. Roode says for someone who doesn’t care sure seems to coming out here like this every week. He says they are a lot alike, noting they both demand respect in this ring. Roode says Ziggler says he is the best ever in this ring and he wants him to back up that claim at Hell in a Cell. The crowd in Glendale starts a “YES” chant. Ziggler tells them to shut up.
Ziggler checks off the aspects of Roode’s entrance including a robe, smoke and a catchy song. He says Roode’s in-ring skills are no match for his. “You are everything that is wrong with WWE.” Ziggler says regarding the match, the match is on and adds that anyone who steps foot in the ring with him, they “reeeeeeeest in.” Roode cuts him off and says Hell in a Cell will be “absolutely glorious.” The crowd in Glendale joins in with Roode.
Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn
Owens and Zayn immediately go at it when the bell rings. Owens gets the better of Zayn early and levels him with a big clothesline. Owens with a clothesline to Zayn in the corner and then connects with his cannonball. Zayn rolls to the outside. Owens sends Zayn into the ring barricade repeatedly. Owens tosses Zayn back inside. Zayn catches Owens with a clothesline, but Owens quickly tosses Zayn out of the ring. When Owens goes to the outside, he charges and Zayn catches him with a big clothesline.
Backstage, we see a shot of Shane McMahon arriving.
Back live, Owens catches Zayn with a huge superkick that results in a two count. During the break, we see Zayn dumping Owens over the ring apron with a big suplex. Zayn with a slap to the collarbone of Owens, springboards off the ropes and connects with a tornado DDT. Zayn is fired up. Owens with a superkick. Zayn avoids a Pop Up Powerbomb and connects with a Blue Thunder Bomb for a close two count. When Owens bails to the outside, Zayn hits the ropes and dives over taking out Owens. When Zayn tosses Owens back in, Owens rolls to the corner and Zayn attempts a dive at the corner. Owens catches Zayn with a superkick through the ropes. Owens powerbombs Zayn over the ring apron! The referee jumps out and checks on Zayn. The referee calls for the bell.
Winner: No Contest
After the match, Kevin Owens sits on the announce table and stares down at Sami Zayn. WWE officials and EMTs run down to check on Zayn at ringside. Glendale is starting a “ONE MORE TIME” chant as Zayn struggles to his feet. Zayn is helped up by EMT officials. Owens then attacks Zayn and the medical staff from behind. Owens steps on the throat of Zayn. Owens grabs a steel chair at ringside when producer Adam Pearce gets in his face to stop. Owens puts the head of Zayn inside the chair when Shane McMahon walks out. Owens tosses Zayn, who still has the chair around his neck, at Shane. Shane runs full speed at the chair and falls down holding his mouth. Owens bails into the crowd. Shane gets up on the corner and points at Owens in the crowd to come back down. Owens blows a kiss at him.
