Andrade “Cien” Almas defeated Cezar Bononi

This was a rematch from several months ago when Bononi scored the upset win as Almas slipped on a banana peel. Zelina Vega joined the announce table, which surprised Percy Watson even though there was an extra chair and headset sitting next to him. Vega said that Almas met her seven years ago and brought her onto his team. Watson asked if anything more happened, and Vega told him off and told him to do his job and not worry about that.

This was actually a more competitive match than when Bononi won. They teased him winning again as he got a near fall with a tight small package, but Almas continued his winning streak with the Hammerlock DDT. Almas had started to play to the crowd, but Vega screamed at him from the announce table so he finished his foe off.

Backstage: William Regal

After a recap of Adam Cole, Bobby Fish, and Kyle O’Reilly’s beatdown of Drew McIntyre last week, Mr. Regal cut an angry promo backstage saying they will no longer attack people outside the arena and that their fighting must be done in the ring.

Backstage Interview: Velveteen Dream

Velveteen Dream came upon a backstage interviewer and told her that the ambiance is still not right. However, after watching TakeOver: Brooklyn, he was compelled by a man who needs his help and experience.

Lars Sullivan defeated three unnamed opponents in a handicap match

This was set up when Sullivan destroyed three different tag team partners after losing matches. Sullivan stated that he wanted all three men in the ring at the same time. This ended up not being a problem for anyone, not the least of which being Sullivan, who heaved all three of them all over the ring. The crowd really got into this as Sullivan dropped all three of them with uranages before making the cover and getting the win.

Sullivan continued to beat on them after the match, leading to No Way Jose fiesta-ing to the stage for the save. Seriously, he came out and began dancing, which made Sullivan stop. Why didn’t anyone try this before? Jose was mad that Sullivan attacked him in Brooklyn a few weeks ago. Jose punched him in the mouth, but Sullivan knocked him down and beat on him. Sullivan finished off Jose with another uranage.

Johnny Gargano did a press conference earlier this week about wrestling at TakeOver: Brooklyn. Gargano didn’t blame Vega’s interference for losing. In walked Tino Sabbatelli and Riddick Moss, who brought up having an angle and match with DIY before Chicago. They told Gargano that he should find a new tag team partner. Gargano challenged one of them to a match next week, though they never announced which one he would face.

A recap from last week where SAnitY was laid out aired, which led to a video where they called out Cole, Fish, and O’Reilly. Eric Young said one day they will realize TakeOver was a huge mistake. Alexander Wolfe said the only thing they care about is chaos.

Sonya Deville defeated Zeda

Zeda went from losing to Shayna Baszler in the first round of the Mae Young Classic to losing to Sonya Deville in the third match on NXT. Zeda got in a kick and that was it. Deville used Zeda as a punching and kicking bag before submitting her with an armbar.

Earlier today, Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch were working out as a tag team when Ruby Riot asked Mr. Regal for a handicap match against Peyton Royce and Billie Kay. Regal said he couldn’t sanction that but told her to find a tag team partner.

Kassius Ohno defeated Hideo Itami in a no DQ match

This was the blowoff to the four-month long feud between Itami and Ohno, which began with Itami losing to Bobby Roode at TakeOver: Chicago. Later on they had a match where Itami intentionally got disqualified by kicking Ohno in the groin, leading us to this.

Itami tried to walk away at the start of the match, but Ohno wouldn’t let him and the fight was on. A few minutes later, when Itami was caving Ohno’s chest in with kicks, I wondered if Ohno wished he would have let him go. Itami grabbed a chair, but Ohno got it away from him and went for a rolling elbow version of the Van Daminator, but Itami threw the chair right into the elbow of Ohno! After commercial, Ohno was starting to build a comeback, but all Itami would have to do is strike the injured elbow to take back the advantage.

Itami went for a Go to Sleep, but Ohno got out of it and hit the rolling elbow, but Itami fell out of the ring. Ohno followed him out of the ring and up the ramp, with Ohno hitting another elbow strike. He went for a suplex, but Itami blocked it and hit his own right on the metal ramp. Back in the ring, Itami used a corner dropkick where the chair was in Ohno’s face, but Ohno kicked out at two. Itami’s concentration was broken as he bellowed to the crowd to show him respect.

Itami went for a kick to the groin, but Ohno blocked it. Itami went for the GTS again, but Ohno slipped out and hit an uppercut to the groin and a rolling elbow for the win.

In-Ring: Asuka

The show ended with an appearance by the undefeated, undisputed, reigning, linear NXT Women’s Champion Asuka.

Asuka first appeared on NXT in the crowd at the very first TakeOver: Brooklyn event and then defeated Dana Brooke in her first official match at TakeOver: Respect. After that she defeated Bayley at TakeOver: Dallas for the Women’s title and has literally defeated every single woman on the roster since then.

Mr. Regal introduced her to the cheering crowd. The crowd seemed to sense what was going to happen, as they chanted “Thank you Asuka” from the start. She stated that she loves NXT and has grown so much here. She is grateful for her time here in NXT. Regal called her one of the greatest champions in WWE history, which the NXT Universe already knows. However, now other people have noticed. Regal announced that on behalf of Asuka he has begun negotiations with the GMs from Raw and SmackDown, which the crowd exploded for. He said the bittersweet moment is Asuka’s going to step down as champion. The fans began booing, but Regal shut them down and pointed out what a big deal this was and now the entire world will find out that no one is ready for Asuka.

The crowd cheered and celebrated the loudest they have in a long time as the entire locker room emptied onto the stage to applaud her. Asuka said that no matter where she goes, NXT goes with her.

Ember Moon pushed through the throng of talent, walked to the ring…and hugged her now-former foe. Both cried in each other’s arms in a truly great moment. Fans were in the crowd crying as well. Triple H then came down and hugged the now-former champion and gave her a bouquet of roses.

Asuka officially handed the title over and the show ended with the crowd chanting “Thank You Asuka.”
