GFW has renewed their TV deal with Pop TV through 2018, Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. The deal was set to expire at the end of this year.
Though it’s obviously good that they will have a TV deal for another year, Meltzer said that it also means that GFW was not able to get something better in order to generate more revenue. Their deal with Pop is apparently just an ad revenue-sharing deal, rather than Pop paying them for their programming, so the revenue is not too high. Most of GFW’s revenue comes from TV deals in the UK and India, according to Meltzer.
GFW will also likely continue to lose money for now, as they have been, despite running on a very limited budget but still apparently not being able to come close to covering costs.
This also likely means that they will continue to tape large chunks of shows at once, with only a few TV tapings per year.
Pop is also a relatively small and lesser-known channel in the US, which hurts their reach and likely means they’ll be hovering around the 300,000 viewer mark for a while.
