WrestleMania 33 Kickoff Show Results – Apr. 2, 2017 – 3 Matches

April 2, 2017
Orlando, Florida – Camping World Stadium

Kickoff Show Panel

Renee Young, Booker T, Jerry Lawler and Shawn Michaels are on the panel.

They talk about how hot it is and how that may affect the wrestlers. It’s about 90 degrees F in Orlando.

Still early, so the stadium still seems about 60% empty.

Charly Caruso and Maria Menounos are at the “Social Media Lounge.”

Sirius XM host Sam Roberts is in a tuxedo and is outside talking with fans.

The panel just talks about and “analyzes” the matches tonight.

They say it’s the biggest entrance ramp in WrestleMania history. 80 yards from the entrance to the ring.

Lita joins the panel, replacing Jerry Lawler to talk about the women’s championship matches.

Cruiserweight Championship
Neville (c) vs. Austin Aries

This match is up first, starting at about 5:38 ET. The stadium is starting to fill up now. Seems mostly full. Still bright and pretty sunny out, which is sort of giving this match an “exhibition” feel.

Tom Phillips and Corey Graves are on commentary.

Aries controlled the match early, causing Neville to go outside to regroup a couple of times. Five minutes into the match, there is a commercial.

Neville hit a nasty looking snap German suplex, landing Aries right on the back of his head. Another big German suplex, but Aries kicked out. Aries hit a “discus five-arm” out of nowhere, but Neville rolled outside, then kicked Aries in the head. He went to the top for the red arrow, but Aries went up and hit a top rope frankensteiner. Top rope 450 by Aries but Neville kicked out. Last-chancery submission by Aries, but Neville raked the injured eye socket of Aries, causing him to writhe in pain. Neville went to the top and hit the Red Arrow for the pin.

Winner: Neville

Paul Heyman was interviewed by Charly Caruso and Maria Menounos and did his usual Lesnar schtick that he has done 6,000 times.

Intercontinental Championship
Dean Ambrose (c) vs. Baron Corbin

This match has been moved to the kickoff show I guess.

Tom Phillips, David Otunga and JBL are announcers. Hopefully JBL is not on every match…

Crowd seems really dead for this match. After some back and forth for about 10 minutes, Ambrose went for the Dirty Deeds, but Corbin blocked it. Corbin slammed his shoulder into both the turnbuckle and the steel steps after going after Ambrose but missing.

Corbin went for Deep Six but Ambrose blocked it, then tried his “off the ropes” clothesline move but Ambrose gave him a big boot and hit a Deep Six, but Ambrose kicked out. Both guys look like they are profusely sweating. JBL says it’s “10 degrees hotter than hell.” Ambrose hit his clothesline off the ropes out of nowhere then went for the Dirty Deeds but Corbin blocked it and slammed Ambrose down. Corbin went for the End of Days but Ambrose reversed, kicked Corbin in the stomach and hit the Dirty Deeds for the win.

Winner: Dean Ambrose
