In this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reports the current idea is to build to a Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar match for the Universal Championship at the SuperDome in New Orleans for WrestleMania 34.
Meltzer reports the goal is to solidify Roman Reigns as the company’s top babyface going forward and to have him be “the next John Cena.” Just as WrestleMania 31 was originally intended to be before it was delayed because of negative fan reactions, WrestleMania 34 is rumored to mark Roman’s coronation as the WWE superstar of this decade, though fan reaction does not seem to be getting any better.
The match is expected to be for the Universal Title, which Lesnar is expected to win at this year’s WrestleMania, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that Lesnar will have a full-year run with the title. WWE may have Lesnar feud with someone and exchange the title a couple of times.
Lesnar is entering the final year of his current contract with WWE and is scheduled to work quite a few more dates in the next year than he has been working since returning to WWE.
Keep in mind, this is where they want things to be in one year and plans could obviously change.
WrestleMania 34 will take place in New Orleans at the SuperDome on April 8, 2018.
