Drew Galloway spoke with Ring Rust Radio for a new interview. Some highlights and the audio are below:
On whether he prefers being the underdog or favorite: “I always like a challenge. Typically, in TNA and the indie scene I am the bigger guy. Right now in TNA, I am the biggest good guy they have, but in Evolve and ICW over in Scotland I get a mixed reaction, but I always say what my character believes. In the ring I love the challenge every time; whether it’s a high flyer, technical guy or a brawler who is a little smaller. When it comes to Bobby Lashley, he really is something special. Everybody knows he is a different type of animal with what he can do in the ring and in the octagon. For me, I don’t treat him like a pro wrestler. I treat him like he is and with the respect he deserves. That goes for the character and the real person. I want people to believe it’s possible and I want them to believe those hits are real. We are going to take it to another level. Jeff Hardy is on the show and he might just steal the show like he always does. I can guarantee, though, that Bobby Lashley and myself will steal the show that night.”
On who he’d like TNA to sign among WWE alumni: “Anybody really. All those guys you just mentioned would be a huge assist to any company. Cody is doing his thing right now and getting people talking. Sandow already has himself back out there. Wade is kicking his feet up and watching the soccer championships. Selfishly, I want my buddies there because they would be a huge asset to the company right now. I could see myself and Wade teaming again like when we were FCW tag champions. Or we could be facing each other across the ring, either one would be a really cool prospect.”
On working with other promotions to open up opportunities for TNA and himself: “The thing is we just don’t know because it really is uncharted territory. My first match back in the indies I won the Evolve title. I wanted to take it around the world and get more eyes on the company. I defended it in multiple countries and brought it on TV. While I was champion, the WWE relationship happened and everyone knew that I was going to be gone. I did end up coming back, and Johnny Gargano and I won the tag titles. So you had someone that won WWE tag titles and Evolve tag titles and everyone is trying to figure out what is going on. That’s the great thing about 2016. Anything can happen and they are letting us do our thing. We aren’t going to do anything to offend either company, and we are going to tow the line to give the fans the best product. The sky is the limit and tonight I am getting ready to pull some things out of my hat and get people talking.”
On how TNA has let him be himself: “Basically what you see is what you get with me. You will see it in my body when I am talking wrestling and I start to get amped up. I forget where I am at and I start to jump all over the place. I just love this business and I am so passionate about it. So many ideas will just flood my head at once and it’s hard to contain myself. With WWE you are playing a role on a TV show. There is only so much room for improvisation because you have to stick to the character and that’s just the way of the beast and how it works. For TNA, they saw what I was doing in the indies and contacted me and told me I could be myself over there. They give me material, but they let me put it in my own words. It’s so much easier for a talent to deliver and let them take it and make it their own. It really does give the optimum product and the best extension of your character.”
