Rusev spoke with the Mirror about his match at WrestleMania 32 and more. Some highlights are below:
On the League of Nations/New Day match: “You can’t get any better, especially for me as it was my first WrestleMania win.”
On the legends coming out to answer Wade Barrett’s challenge: “It was annoying at first! Because we just won, we were celebrating at WrestleMania. All of a sudden you hear that music and these people are coming down to disrespect you and steal your moment. I felt disrespected so I needed to get in there and prove myself, that I could hang with these guys. And yeah, I got stunnered…He hadn’t hit one in a while, so he must have put something extra in there.”
On Lana’s match on the pre-show: “Oh, I was very proud. She looked amazing, she looked stunning. She was a bit nervous beforehand and I was trying to calm her down, which is totally understandable, when you have your first match at WrestleMania, the grandest stage of them all. But she handled it so well, she is so professional. She is just great. She went out there and she showcased to the world that she is going to be one of the best Divas and she is going to just get better and better. She is going to take over the Women’s Division very soon.”
On being part of the League of Nations: “Oh it’s great, if I get tired I can tag out, somebody else can go beat somebody. I don’t have to get tired and beat people up by myself all the time. All the guys are winners, and when winners come together, only good things can happen.”
On what he’ll remember most about WrestleMania 32: “I feel like it’s going to be remembered for all the wrong reasons, with Stone Cold giving me that Stunner. I would like to remember it as my first win. It happened the way it happened, they came down and we had that altercation, but I also beat up Stone Cold for a good minute in the corner, and nobody is talking about that right? Everybody is talking about the Stunner. But I understand, people have selective memories. It doesn’t matter. I will just keep reminding everybody!”
On how he can top it next year: “Who knows? You never know. Three years ago who would have known I would be in one of the main matches with John Cena? One of the biggest superstars of all time? Who knew that Stone Cold would give me a Stunner at WrestleMania? You just never know what is going to happen in WWE. That is why it is so magical.”
