ORIGINAL: Alberto Del Rio made his WWE return at the beginning of Hell in a Cell, facing John Cena in the US Open Challenge and managed by Zeb Colter. Colter came out and said that he felt it was time for different cultures to come together and that it was time for someone to take the US Title from Cena. That brought out Del Rio, who eventually reversed the AA into the backstabber and kicked Cena in the head to win the US Championship.
This is the first appearance by Del Rio in WWE since he was fired in August 2014 after slapping a company employee who had allegedly made a racist joke toward him.
Del Rio had been reported as in talks with the company for the last several weeks, most recently telling people that he wanted to be back in time for WrestleMania. The company’s creative team had been talking openly about potential booking plans for Del Rio. Obviously, this unless this is a very short-tern contract (which seems unlikely at this point), he will not be coming back for Lucha Underground’s second season.
