As previously reported, the family of former WWE Superstar Matt Osborne, aka Doink the Clown, is suing the WWE in federal court. Osborne’s family is claiming the traumatic brain injuries he suffered during his time in WWE resulted in “depression and drug abuse, which ultimately resulted in his untimely death.” TMZ has released a new report with additional details on the lawsuit. According to the report, Osborne’s mother is claiming her son suffered serious brain injuries leading to his death, and WWE “ignored the problem.”
Osborne passed away in 2013 due to a drug overdose. Osborne’s mother claims the drug addiction was the result of Osborne’s wrestling career and years of concussions he received during that time. In addition, she claims that WWE knew the danger of brain injuries and that the company should have helped Osborne seek proper treatment.
In 2006, the WWE started a Wellness Program, but Osborne’s mother says it only deceived her son by giving him a false sense of security. This resulted in Osborne not seeking adequate treatment for his problems. The suit adds that Vince McMahon has turned a “blind eye” to the WWE Superstars who have passed away at young ages over the years and ignored the warning signs that could have saved her son.
She is suing WWE for wrongful death, fraud, and negligence.
