Randy Orton, Roman Reigns & The New Day Kick Off RAW
This week’s show opens up with a live shot inside the Bell Centre in Montreal as Michael Cole welcomes us to Monday Night Raw. From there, Randy Orton’s theme hits. The Apex Predator makes his way to the ring.
Orton’s music fades as the cheers from the fans pick up. Orton says Payback is a fitting name for a pay-per-view. He says payback is exactly what he’s going to get on Seth Rollins in two weeks.
He continues to talk about Payback, mentioning that the fans voted for a triple-threat match with he, Rollins and Roman Reigns. He says it doesn’t matter because he’s walking out the new champ and there’s nothing anyone can do about it.
With that said, Reigns’ music hits and out he comes through the crowd. Reigns tells Orton all that stuff he just said isn’t going down like that. He says if anyone is getting payback, it’s him. As all of this is going on, the fans are chanting “RKO” super-loud. Super fn loud. Reigns says the fans can’t fight for him. Orton says “oohhh” mockingly.
Orton and Reigns battle back-and-forth on the mic, interupting each other a few times and talking about their history and accomplishments. Orton puts Reigns down for not accomplishing some of the things he has. Reigns says he wants his payback on Seth, but he doesn’t mind breaking Orton one more time like he did at SummerSlam.
Reigns and Orton continue to argue off-mic as The New Day’s music hits. They come out in yellow and grey outfits clapping and dancing. Xavier Woods tells Orton and Reigns to “hold on.” The fans chant New Day-sucks at them. They say they feel the need to spread the positivity. They tell them no one cares about their problem. They continue to talk trash for what seems like forever with their annoying “super positive voices.”
They try to close the segment by clapping and they ask Orton and Reigns to do it with them. Kingston is mad when he notices them not doing it with them. They tell them that one thing they will do is face them tonight, and that’s an order from the Director of Operations — Kane. They say it’s going down right now.
3-on-2 Handicap Match
– The New Day vs. Roman Reigns & Randy Orton
The New Day’s music hits again as they clap and dance their way to the ring as Orton and Reigns talk to each other. We head to a commercial on that note, with our three-on-two handicap match coming up next after the break.
When we return from the break, The New Day guys are doing a good job of staying on top of Orton. Finally, Orton tags in Reigns and Reigns begins to clean up on them. Once Reigns establishes control, he tags Orton back in.
Orton comes in and takes over where Reigns left off, taking it to Woods in the center of the ring. The New Day take back over control of the offense in the match, as they are now taking turns keeping fresh guys on Orton as we head to a mid-match commercial.
We’re back from the break and the first thing we see is Reigns stuck in a chinlock from Kingston. Kingston tags Big E. in and he picks up where he left off. Reigns is down and out and The New Day are smiling and clapping as they continue to deliver punishment.
The beatdown on Reigns seemed like it was going to go on forever. Finally, he clotheslines Woods down and crawls to the corner to finally make the tag to Orton.
Orton takes the hot tag and comes in cleaning house, taking out everything that moves. He nearly botched a big powerslam spot. Reigns coms in to help but ends up getting knocked on his ass. Orton hits the draping DDT and he’s now calling for the RKO.
As Orton waits for Kingston to get up, Woods goes to attack him from behind. Orton catches him and RKO’s him. As he goes to RKO Kingston finally, Reigns comes in with a spear, but Kingston moves and he ends up spearing Orton. The New Day makes the pin.
Winners: The New Day
After The Match: Tonight’s Main Event Is Set
After the match The New Day celebrate their way to the back as Reigns walks around the ring upset. Orton is still on the mat in the ring as Reigns enters it. Kane comes out and tells them there’s nothing to be ashamed of in losing to the tag champions.
Kane tells Reigns and Orton that their evening isn’t over just yet. He tells them that in tonight’s main event, Randy Orton will go one-on-one with Roman Reigns. The fans pop. Kane tells them that’s what’s best for business and he walks off.
Backstage: Kane, The New Day & Seth Rollins
We see Kane walking backstage. He walks past The New Day. They are celebrating wild and telling Kane “we told you!” Kane keeps walking and rolls his eyes.
Up walks Seth Rollins, accompanied by J&J Security. He tells Kane that what he just did to Reigns and Orton was great, but The Authority is coming back and they are going to punish Kane for what he did to Rollins.
Kane tells Rollins that what he did with Reigns and Orton was best for business. He says that brings him to Rollins. He says he can’t leave their opponent at Payback not having any action tonight.
He says tonight it will be Seth Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose and just so there won’t be a repeat from last week, J&J Security is banned from ringside. Rollins isn’t happy so he flips out and complains. Kane threatens to make a bunch of weird stipulations to make things worse if Rollins doesn’t shut up. Rollins walks away pissed as the fans cheer. We head to commercial break on that note.
Ryback & Bray Wyatt Segment
When we return from commercial, Renee Young is in the ring. She introduces Ryback. “Feed Me More” blares from the speakers as he makes his way out to the ring in street clothes.
As he makes his way to the ring, we see highlights of Bray Wyatt attacking him twice. Young asks Ryback if he knows why Wyatt is attacking him. He says he doesn’t know but it doesn’t matter because he’s not afraid to face fear. The Montreal fans get Ryback to pause in his tracks a few times with “Goldberg” chants. They approve and start chanting “Feed Me More” instead.
Ryback goes on to talk about some of the severe injuries he’s had in the past and how doctors told him he would never wrestle. He tells Bray he’s faced fear many times, but he takes it on directly and he eats it. He says that is what he does. He leads the fans in a loud “Feed Me More” chant.
Finally, Wyatt cuts in humming “He’s Got The Whole World” backstage in a dark, smokey room. He says Ryback is painting himself like an undestructable force. He says he sees him as a scared little boy. He talks about how fear controls people. Wyatt tells Ryback he’s going to make him fade away just like his dreams. He finishes by simply saying, “Run!” We cut to commercial.
Tyson Kidd & Cesaro vs. The Ascension
When we return from the break, Tyson Kidd and Cesaro, along with Natalya, make their way to the ring. Out next is The Ascension. It’s time for some tag-team action.
Konnor and Kidd kick things off for their respective teams. Kidd gets in a little bit of fast-paced offense, but Konnor takes over. Konnor and Viktor get Kidd in their corner and continue to tag-in and tag-out to keep a fresh guy on him.
Finally, Kidd gets to Cesaro and makes the tag. Cesaro takes the hot tag and is flying all over the place. He whips him into the corner back-and-forth about 20 times and followed in with an elbow each time. That was like a standinng version of the big swing or something. Whatever it was, it was cool and the fans loved it.
Cesaro calls for the swing but The Ascension double-teams him to get him down. Kidd makes the save. Viktor turns around into a Cesaro Swing as he tags Kidd in before starting the swing. Kidd does a move off of the swing and pins him. 1-2-3. Kidd and Cesaro win.

Both Ambrose and Rollins are out now. This one is about to officially get underway. Before it can, however, Kane’s music hits and out he comes. Kane says since Rollins said there’s no point to this match, he’s going to change the stakes. He says there’s a point to the match now because if Ambrose wins, he will be added to the Payback main event to make it a fatal four way.

Back in the ring, Ambrose continues to deliver the punishment to Rollins. He clotheslines him down and drops some elbows on him. He locks him in a goofy submission as the announcers talk about the stipulation. Ambrose suplexes Rollins down. Ambrose brings the action back into the ring where he is in control of the match now. He hits Rollins with a big finishing move type of move that’s new. He tries to pin him but Riollins just manages to kick out. The announcers sell it like that should have finished it as the Montreal fans loudly chant “This Is Awesome.”
Ambrose goes to the top rope and comes off with a Macho Man style flying elbow smash onto a standing Rollins. They crash onto the mat together and Ambrose stays on top of him for a pinfall attempt. Rollins kicks out at two. The fans chant “Ole! Ole!” loudly as Rollins and Ambrose continue to battle.

They go over the top and spill out to the floor, landing hard. The fans loudly chant “This Is Awesome” as Rollins powerbombs Ambrose into the barricade on the floor. The fans chant “holy sh*t” after that one.
Rollins rolls back in the ring and lets the referee count. He’s content to have Ambrose counted out so he’s not added to the Payback main event, but Ambrose barely manages to roll in at 9 1/2. He had to run to do it, too. Rollins, who thought he had won, starts stomping Ambrose in the corner because he’s pissed.
Ambrose splashes Rollins in the corner and then blasts him in the center of the ring. Ambrose picks Rollins up for his finisher but J&J Security hit the ring. In the confusion, Ambrose rolls Rollins up. He’s going to Payback. We head to commercial.
