Last night Mick Foley kicked off his “50 Years of Foley” at the Improv in Kansas City. It was an excellent evening of Mick telling stories and entertaining everyone.
It is supposed to be a whole new show but there were some stuff from “Cheap Pops” used. Two I am sure of is the story about visiting a live sex club in Germany. This was told since it became part of his act since a question from the Q&A in his Kansas City show two years ago. The story sprouted from someone asking if when he lost in ear in Germany if that was the craziest thing to ever happen to him. His reply that was not even the craziest thing that he saw in Germany.
He also did a long story about the Hell in the Cell Match with the Undertaker. This was something that he did not talk to the last time he was in KC. I will say he had me rolling when he got to the part when he woke up in the ring and the first thing he saw was Terry Funk’s shoes. Terry had been chokeslammed out of shoes by the Undertaker. As a whole it was an awesome perspective of one of the most epic moments is WWE history.
There were a couple of shots at Al Snow, Vince McMahon stories, and even comments about disastrous shows. There was a Q&A session at the end which brought out some great little stories. He admitted that “Dude Love” character is partly responsible in making him be viewed as a superstar in Vince’s eyes. He also said another pivotal point in his career was when he changed Mankind in to a more lovable character to connect with the audience.
Following the show was a meet and greet. He had stated on local TV he would donate all profits from the night would go to “Alex’s Lemonade Stand”. The greatest part of the merch table is that he is selling the original Cactus Jack wanted poster shirts for $30. His deal was buy a shirt and both 8×10’s and get a personally made Mr. Socko by Mick, which is awesome and I got it, but it did slow the line down a lot. It was over and hour before we got to Mick and there were a ton of people behind us. I did remind him that two years ago he said I should curse him for his books because of all the ones that followed. He laughed and said he has read about 20 wrestling biography books and found something to like in all. I told him besides his own that I loved Stan Hansen’s and Gary Hart’s books. He said he had read Stan’s but not Gary’s. I told him to get it and he would not be disappointed.
Last, I will say Mick did look like he was in a bit of pain. He stood most of the show but had chairs for people to sit in to take pictures with him. He did state on the radio that he put off a minor back surgery until after his shows. He was supposed to have had it on Monday.
