Brock Lesnar, Paul Heyman & Stephanie McMahon Kick Off RAW
The post-WrestleMania 31 edition of WWE RAW, which is live in front of a jam-packed crowd in San Jose, California, opens up with the normal RAW opening video, followed by a shot inside the arena, where pyro and fireworks explode as loud as the fans do.
Michael Cole welcomes us to the show on commentary, informing us that the SAP Center in San Jose is sold out for tonight’s show. From there, Brock Lesnar’s theme hits, the fans erupt and out comes the former WWE World Heavyweight Champion accompanied by his advocate, Paul Heyman.
Lilian Garcia introduces Lesnar and Heyman. Lesnar, by the way, is wearing his ring gear — no shirt, wrestling shorts, MMA gloves, etc. He’s got scratches and bruises all over his face and looks pissed. The announcers inform us what happened at WrestleMania 31 last night, with Seth Rollins cashing in his Money In The Bank briefcase to become the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
The music dies down as the “Lesnar! Lesnar!” chants pick up. “Ladies and gentlemen, my name is Paul Heyman,” opens the advocate. The fans are absolutely on fire here early on tonight.
The fans break out into a very loud chant. It’s either “U-F-C!” or “Suplex City!” but either way, Heyman tells us the correct phrase is “Suplex City, BITCH!” the phrase Lesnar said last night while he was beating down Roman Reigns in the early goings of the match.
Heyman brings up Rollins cashing in and points out that he pinned the challenger, Roman Reigns, not the champion, Brock Lesnar. Heyman explains how he can handle that situation legally before pointing out that his client, Brock Lesnar, thinks all lawyers are scumbags and doesn’t want to handle it in a legal fashion, he wants to use his rematch clause. The fans go wild for that one. Heyman tells us that the rematch will be used right here, right now, tonight. The fans go absolutely crazy for that one. “Yes!” chants spread throughout the SAP Center as Stephanie McMahon’s theme hits.
The fans boo so loudly that you can barely hear Stephanie, who talks about how awesome WrestleMania was last night at the top of the stage. The “Ronda Rousey” chants are now drowning out Steph as she tries to talk. The announcers point out that the fans are chanting for Rousey. Steph says Rollins isn’t back from his “Today” show appearance in New York yet, so she can’t make the rematch official yet.
Heyman tells Stephanie that he’s going to give Stephanie — not a prediction, but a spoiler. He says tonight, for the first time in over a decade, his client — Brock Lesnar — is going to wrestle on Monday Night RAW. He says he’s going to give Seth Rollins a beating and he is going to make an announcement, “The winner, and once again the reigning, undisputed, WWE heavyweight champion of the world, Brock Lesnar.” Lesnar’s music hits again as Heyman tosses the mic out of the ring.
Three Title Matches Tonight On RAW?
We shoot to the announcers who inform us that we may see three title matches tonight, as John Cena has issued an open challenge to defend the WWE United States Championship tonight here on RAW. They also inform us that Daniel Bryan is going to defend his newly won WWE Intercontinental Championship aganist Dolph Ziggler, and that match is next. We head to our first commercial break on that note.
WWE Intercontinental Championship
– Daniel Bryan (c) vs. Dolph Ziggler
When we return from the break, Dolph Ziggler is in the ring wearing a goofy jean-jacket cut-off that looks like a vest, with pink emblems and stuff on it. Daniel Bryan’s theme hits, the fans erupt in “Yes!” chants and the new I-C champ makes his way to the ring.
The bell sounds and here we go with our first match of the evening. The former I-C champ, Bad News Barrett, is on commentary for this one. Bryan and Ziggler trade holds and Bryan mounts Ziggler with rig8ht hands. Ziggler with a 2 count. Ziggler fires back with strikes now. They lock up and fans chant “this is awesome” as they go to the corner. Bryan drops Ziggler in the corner and gets him in the surfboard submission to a pop. Bryan keeps control after they break but Ziggler hits a dropkick. We head to a mid-match commercial.
We’re back from the break and we see Bryan beating on Ziggler in the ring. Bryan climbs up top but Ziggler crotches him. Ziggler climbs up but Bryan reverses and crotches Ziggler. Bryan climbs back up as we get dueling chants from fans. Bryan hits a huge super back drop from the top and covers for a 2 count. Bryan with kicks while Ziggler is on his knees now. Ziggler ducks the roundhouse and rolls Bryan up for 2. Bryan goes for the “Yes!” lock, but Ziggler avoids it.
Ziggler goes for his Zig-Zag finisher, but Bryan avoids it and blasts Ziggler with a super kick. Ziggler and Bryan trade shots again as the fans come alive once again. Much like last night at WrestleMania, Bryan and Ziggler trade headbutts back-and-forth until finally Bryan knocks him down. Bryan hits the running knee and pins him. 1-2-3. Bryan retains.
Winner and STILL WWE Intercontinental Champion: Daniel Bryan
After The Match:
Once the match is finished, Bad News Barrett hops off of commentary and hits the ring, attacking Daniel Bryan. As he continues to beat him down, Sheamus’ theme song hits. “The Celtic Warrior” makes his way to the ring and chases Barrett out of there, but then out of nowhere, he blasts Bryan with a Brogue Kick and then beats down Ziggler for a while. The fans start chanting “You look stupid! You look stupid!” at Sheamus, who has a big red mohawk and a beard tied up in little rubber bands. Sheamus gets on the mic and simply says, “I’m back.” We head to commercial.
WWE Hall Of Fame Recap
Once we return from the break, we are introduced to a video highlight package of the WWE Hall Of Fame 2015 induction ceremony from Saturday night.
The Lucha Dragons & The New Day vs. Tyson Kidd, Cesaro & The Ascension
Now it’s time for eight-man tag-team action. On one side of the ring we have the WWE Tag-Team Champions, Tyson Kidd and Cesaro, who are teaming up with The Ascension tonight. On the other side of the ring we have The New Day, represented by Kofi Kingston and Big E., who are joined in this one by former NXT Tag-Team Champions The Lucha Dragons — Kalisto and Sin Cara.
The bell sounds and here we go. The action goes back-and-forth throughout the match, with both Kalisto and Sin Cara getting chances to showcase a lot of their high-risk offense. In the end, Kalisto hit his finisher on one of the members of The Ascension to pick up the victory for his team.
Winners: The Lucha Dragons & The New Day
Adrian Neville Is Coming
An Adrian Neville vignette aired before we head to commercial. Nothing was said. Just a bunch of highlights of him in action from NXT were shown. On that note, we head to a break.
WWE World Heavyweight Championship
– Seth Rollins (c) vs. Brock Lesnar
Out comes Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman. It’s time for our WWE World Heavyweight Championship bout of the night, as Lesnar is using his rematch to fight Rollins.
Next out to the ring are Seth Rollins and J&J Security. Lilian Garcia does the formal introductions for this championship contest and here we go.
Before anything officially happens, Rollins rolls out of the ring with his title and grabs a mic. He says he’s jet-lagged and won’t be defending his title tonight.
Lesnar loses his cool and comes out after Rollins. Lesnar knocks over the announce table, which crashes into Booker T and JBL. Both of them are down. He tries to get Rollins but Rollins escapes through the crowd.
Brock, still angry, grabs Michael Cole and throws him in the ring. Lesnar blasts Cole with an F-5. Now, Lesnar grabs a camera man who is standing on the apron.
As Lesnar is holding the camera man up for an F-5, Stephanie McMahon’s music hits and out she comes. Steph yells at Lesnar, demanding he put down the camera man. Lesnar obliges, but in his own fashion, as he nails the camera man with an F-5.
This leads to Stephanie suspending Lesnar “indefinitiely” and heading to the backstage angry. Lesnar F-5s the camera man again anyways. We see a shot of Booker and JBL laid out behind the announce table, as well as Michael Cole, who is laid out on the floor. We head to a commercial at medics come out to attend to the announce team.
Backstage: Renee Young Interviews Stephanie McMahon
When we return from the break, we see Cole, JBL and Booker being loaded up on stretchers and taken out of the arena.
Backstage, Renee Young catches up with Stephanie McMahon. Stephanie is still pissed. She says WWE is going to fine Lesnar for his actions. Young asks Steph when Lesnar will get his rematch. Steph says she’ll give Lesnar his rematch when she feels like it. She storms off still worked up and mad.
Stardust vs. Damien Mizdow
Byron Saxton is now out on commentary by himself. Out comes Stardust for our next match of the evening. His opponent, who comes out now, is Damien Mizdow, who is by himself, without The Miz.
Mizdow does The Miz’s glasses-taking-off thing to a big pop from the crowd. The bell sounds and here we go with our next singles contest of the evening.
Mizdow blasts Stardust with a big clothesline. Stardust turns the tables now and is in control of the offense at this point. The fans chant “Cody! Cody” as Stardust remains in control.
Out of nowhere, Mizdow catches Stardust with the Skull Crushing Finale for the pinfall victory, which the fans in San Jose loved. After the match, out of nowhere, The Miz appears and brutally attacks Mizdow. We head to a commercial.
Winner: Damien Mizdow
Curtis Axel vs. Neville
When we return from the break, Curtis Axel comes out and cuts a promo. He tells us not to change the channel. He talks about being screwed at the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania 31. Before he can continue, music hits and out comes former NXT Champion Adrian Neville, who is being called simply “Neville.”
Neville, who is being called “the man who defies gravity,” is wearing a big purple cape with a hood. He takes the hood off and makes his way to the ring. The bell sounds and here we go with our next match of the evening.
Neville knocks Axel out of the ring and hits a big moonsault on him. Neville is flying all over the place, hitting a number of high-flying moves and cool spots. In the end, Neville climbs to the top rope and hits his Red Arrow finisher on Axel for the 1-2-3.
Winner: Neville
WWE United States Championship
– John Cena (c) vs. Dean Ambrose
As noted at the beginning of the show, it was announced that John Cena issued an open challenge to anyone on the WWE roster to fight him for his newly won U.S. title. Well, it’s time for that match!
John Cena makes his way to the ring to loud “John Cena sucks” singing chants from the rabid fans in San Jose. Out next is the person who accepted the challenge to fight him for the belt tonight — Dean Ambrose.
The bell sounds and here we go. The action is back-and-forth throughout much of the match. The finishing sequence sees Cena get Ambrose in the STF several times, but he can’t get him to tap. Ambrose avoids about 100 A.A. attempts and actually gets Cena in his own STF hold.
In the end, Ambrose comes off the top rope with a cross body press, however Cena rolls through and in an impressive display of strength, he hoists him up over his head and nails him with an A.A. 1-2-3. Cena wins and retains.
Winner and STILL WWE United States Champion: John Cena
Backstage: Seth Rollins, Kane, Big Show & Randy Orton
Backstage, Renee Young is with Seth Rollins and Randy Orton. In walks Big Show and Kane. After a bunch of trash-talking, we find out that Rollins, Big Show and Kane will be taking on Orton and two mystery partners.
AJ Lee & Paige vs. The Bella Twins
We head back to the ring for what will be a six-Divas tag-team match, featuring AJ Lee, Paige and Naomi against the trio of The Bella Twins and Natalya.
The bell sounds and here we go. Nattie and Naomi kick things off for their respective teams. Nattie gets the better of Naomi early on, but it isn’t long before Naomi turns the tables and takes over control of the offense in the match.
The action continues through a mid-match commercial break, leading to the finish, which sees Nikki accidentally knocking out Brie, which leads to Naomi hitting her Rear View finisher on Nikki for the 1-2-3.
Winners: AJ Lee, Paige & Naomi
Backstage: Randy Orton & Ryback
Backstage we see Randy Orton getting ready for his six-man tag-team match when in walks Ryback. Ryback offers to be one of Orton’s partners. The two shake hands, so now we know it will be Ryback and Orton, and someone else, against Rollins, Kane and Big Show.
Goldust vs. Rusev
We head back to the ring for our next match of the evening, as Goldust makes his way out. Out next is his opponent for tonight, former WWE United States Champion Rusev.
The bell sounds and here we go. This match doesn’t last long at all, and was a completely one-sided “squash match” beatdown, with Rusev picking up the win via submission after getting Goldust in The Accolade.
Winner: Rusev
Seth Rollins, Big Show & Kane vs. Randy Orton, Ryback & Roman Reigns
When we return from the break, the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins, along with his tag-team partners for tonight, Big Show and Kane, make their way to the ring for tonight’s main event.
Their opponents, Randy Orton and Ryback, make their way out next. We wait to see if and who their third partner will be for this one, and finally Roman Reigns’ music hits. Reigns makes his way down to the ring as we see Big Show outside the ring posing with the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal trophy.
The bell sounds and here we go with our final match of the evening. The action is slow at the beginning, but picks up as we head into a mid-match commercial break.
When we return from the break, the fans go completely nuts. They do a big “waive” throughout the arena, ignoring the action in the ring. However in the end, after each guy takes turns either hitting their finishers or just missing them, Reigns nails Kane with a spear and scores the pin. Rollins escapes and stares down the babyfaces from the top of the stsage. The post-WrestleMania 31 edition of RAW goes off the air on that note.
Winners: Randy Orton, Ryback & Roman Reigns
