It has been in the plans for some time for Roman Reigns to win the WWE Title at WrestleMania 31, but those plans may have changed due to Lesnar signing a new contract and the feeling by some that Reigns is not ready for the top spot. The company also feels that Lesnar will get a monster face reaction on Sunday, while the crowd may treat Reigns like a heel. Lesnar’s appearance on ESPN’s SportsCenter to announce the new deal was also done to put the outcome of the match in doubt.
The company may be planning a big angle around the finish of the Reigns vs. Lesnar match, with the idea to set up Lesnar’s opponent for WrestleMania 32. With Lesnar signing a three-year deal, the door is now wide open for Lesnar to feud with other top names in WWE, and they could also book a Lesnar vs. Rock match at WrestleMania 32. That match has been rumored, Rock recently did an interview mentioning it and Heyman’s promos leading into WrestleMania have stressed that, “Lesnar beat the Rock so bad he sent him to Hollywood.” There were originally plans to build to the match following Rock’s WrestleMania 29 loss to John Cena, but Rock’s injuries changed those plans.
