IGN recently interviewed Roman Reigns on the upcoming Royal Rumble event. Below are some highlights.
His thoughts on Daniel Bryan competing in the Royal Rumble: “It doesn’t change anything for me. He’s considerably smaller than I am and this match isn’t about submissions or pinfalls, it’s about throwing a guy over the top rope. So I clearly have a weight advantage. I’m far more explosive. I think, if anything, I have the upper hand in a Royal Rumble match.”
Reigns on if 2015 is a year for a younger Superstar to win the Rumble: “Oh, absolutely. I actually think that in a situation like the Royal Rumble, no matter who’s coming back, former wrestler or any kind of big name, it’s open for anyone to win. Anyone can step up. I don’t think anyone thought I was going to do what I did last year when I had 12 eliminations and took the record off of Kane, and then be among the final two guys in the ring. Everybody was thinking about Bryan last year because he never came out, and they were thinking about Batista too, and not really thinking about me. So I think it’s an opportunity for anyone to step up and raise their game to the highest level.”
Reigns on dealing with his injury after SummerSlam: “It was a bit of a double-edged sword, I’d say. Because with the schedule we’re running, we don’t have an off-season. And I am a father and a husband. So those days I’m on the road I’m away from my family and my loved ones. So it was nice to be able to spend some time with them, take a vacation almost. But as a competitor, as a performer, it was just bugging me out not to be in that ring. You know, not performing for people, hearing that crowd. The toughest part from a rehab perspective was that this rehab was different from any other rehab I’ve ever had to go through. It’s always been, you hurt your knee, you can still focus on 90% of your body. You can build your upper body. And vice versa. You hurt your upper body you can work your legs. I couldn’t do anything. I had to sit on the couch and just wait. So for me as an athlete and a guy who tries to work hard, I couldn’t out-work this injury and it was really blowing my mind.”
