To add some more fuel to the speculative fire on The Rock appearing at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view tonight, Reddit user metsfan4ever went so far as saying that The Rock will not only make an appearance at the Royal Rumble PPV tonight, but he claimed there had been discussions of The Rock actually winning the Rumble match. Currently, WWE.com is heavily teasing The Rock making an appearance. The article even went as far as teasing The Rock as a surprise entrant in the Rumble or possibly having “unfinished business” with Brock Lesnar.
Metsfan4ever claims there have been serious talks in the last few weeks in the WWE to have him as a surprise entrant tonight. The end result would be The Rock winning and go on to face Brock Lesnar for the title at WrestleMania 31. However, his Reddit post also claims that if talks fell through, The Rock was willing to appear on the show in order to put over Roman Reigns in a segment backstage. Seems pretty obvious though, no?
He also claimed another possibility for the match is that Bray Wyatt would win. WWE officials reportedly still have “very high hopes” for Wyatt.
As noted earlier here on the website, Sting is not likely going to be at the Royal Rumble. As of Jan. 24, Sting was not in Philadelphia for the event.
Diamond Dallas Page reportedly flew overnight to the east coast from the Slamdance Film Festival in Utah from the premiere of Jake Robert’s documentary, The Resurrection of Jake the Snake. DDP is said to be a surprise entrant for the Rumble match tonight.
The Boogeyman was reportedly rumored among some of the wrestlers on the WWE roster as a surprise entrant for the Rumble tonight.
Some readers have claimed to have seen The Rock in town and that he declined photos, adding that he “wasn’t there.” That is interesting considering he posted on his own Instagram account that he is in Philadelphia. According to an earlier report, The Rock is confirmed to appear at the show.
The local Philadelphia CBS affiliate, CBS 3 KYW, reported that The Rock was in town to attend the Royal Rumble.
As noted earlier, Rob Van Dam has not had any talks with WWE about an appearance at WrestleMania 31 this year. It is possible that could change between now and March. According to an earlier report, Rob Van Dam is likely to make an appearance at the Royal Rumble tonight as a surprise entrant in the Rumble match. However, currently there are said to be no plans for RVD to work a match at WrestleMania.
That means if he appears the Rumble tonight, it could be a “one-shot deal.”
As noted earlier, WWE aired a video package showcasing the promotion’s history at the IZOD Center in New Jersey. WWE ran its last event at the venue last night. The video showcased Ron Simmons, the New Age Outlaws, Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, Shawn Michaels, and Kevin Nash sharing memories of working at the IZOD Center and its history.
