WWE RAW Opens Up With VINCE MCMAHON
This week’s show opens up with highlights of Randy Orton defying “The Authority” and RKO’ing Seth Rollins on last week’s show. From there, the highlights recaps last week’s RAW main event and all that went down after the match, with everyone hitting the ring.
After that, we shoot live into the arena in Buffalo, New York — the site of tonight’s RAW — where Michael Cole welcomes us to the show. And then it happens!
VINCENT KENNEDY MCMAHON makes the “Mr. McMahon” walk to the ring, to his music, accompanied by Triple H and Stephanie McMahon.
Vince opens up by saying it looks like things are in good hands with The Authority. He plugs the WWE Network, which he allows Steph to inform us is for $9.99. He then plugs the free month of November for the WWE Network, which includes the Survivor Series. He mentions “Team Authority” vs. “Team Cena” in a traditional five-on-five elimination Survivor Series match.
Vince says as good as that is, he wants to raise the stakes. He wants that next generation to feel what he feels. The feeling of having true power — power that you can feel. He brings up beating the U.S. government in the steroid trial. He then brings up Ted Turner and Time Warner and WCW, who he says he beat as well. He also talks about beating God in that horrible gimmick match with Shawn Michaels years ago.
He says if Team Authority loses at Survivor Series — they will no longer be “The Authority.” He says that means The Authority will no longer be in power. The fans chant “Yes! Yes! Yes!” Vince says he knows they can do it and asks them to take a walk. They all leave the ring.
As they make the walk down the ring steps, Dean Ambrose’s theme hits. The trio stops at the end of the aisle way as Ambrose makes his way down the ramp. Ambrose and Vince shake hands. Ambrose walks past HHH and Steph and enters the ring as the power-trio makes their way up the ramp. We head to commercial as Ambrose finishes his ring entrance and Michael Cole informs us he’s in action against Cesaro next.
Backstage: Vince McMahon & The Authority
When we return from commercial, Vince is with Triple H and Steph outside of a limo in the parking lot. He says it felt so good to be back out there. He says he knows it was a surprise to them, but he knows they can deal with it. HHH says nothing is a surprise when it comes to Vince. Vince tells HHH his tie is a little crooked. Vince says they don’t seem appreciated, but he knows that comes with the job. Steph says goodbye to dad as Vince leaves in the limo. HHH asks Steph once Vnice is gone, “what was that?” Steph says, “I don’t know. Let’s go find out.”
Dean Ambrose vs. Cesaro
We see video highlights of the Ambrose vs. Seth Rollins match from Hell In A Cell and then shoot back to the ring, where Ambrose’s music is still playing. Finally, Cesaro’s theme hits and out he comes with a red towel over his head, ala Tazz and the orange towel back in the day. Michael Cole introduces video highlights of Ambrose’s attack of Cesaro with the mic on RAW last week, followed by highlights of their brawl on SmackDown in the “trick of street fight” match.
The bell rings and here we go. As the action begins in the ring, the announcers quickly ignore it and do one of what I can only assume will be an insane amount of plugs for the free month of the WWE Network in November.
Meanwhile, after some early scrambles, Cesaro takes the offensive control of the match thus far. Ambrose slugs his way out of it and now appears to be in control himself.
The action spills out to the floor. Ambrose gets on top of the ringside barricade and leaps off, hitting Cesaro with a double axe-handle smash on the way down. Back in the ring, Cesaro has a cut on the side of his bald head and we can see some blood coming out of it. Ambrose clotheslines Cesaro out to the floor. A quick shot of Cesaro on the floor shows more and more blood starting to pour out of the side of his head.
As the ref makes the count on Cesaro and keeps Ambrose in the rnig and away from him, the Wyatt Family cut-in happens out of nowhere and we head to commercial.
When we return from commercial, we see Bray Wyatt sitting in his rocking chair on the top of the stage, rocking back-and-forth as the action resumes in the ring.
Speaking of the action in the ring, Cesaro is now firmly in control of Ambrose. We are told by the announcers that the ringside doctors were able to stop the bleeding on the side of Cesaro’s head during the break.
After some back-and-forth action, in the end, Ambrose hits the “Dirty Deeds” on Cesaro out of nowhere for the 1-2-3.
Winner: Dean Ambrose
After The Match:
We see a shot of Wyatt looking on from his rocking chair at the top of the stage. Ambrose leaves the ring during his celebration to charge Wyatt, but The Wyatt Family cut-in happens again. When it’s done, we see Ambrose alone in the ring with the rocking chair still rocking on the top of the stage, however the chair is completely empty and Wyatt is nowhere to be found. Ambrose smiles as his music plays again.
Backstage: Triple H & Stephanie McMahon
Backstage, Steph is telling HHH that her dad taught her that you can never see a person sweat or look nervous. She says when they go out there they need to look fully confident and be all smiles. HHH is playing with his phone, so Steph asks what he’s doing. HHH says he’s texting Randy Orton. Steph loses her cool and reminds HHH everything that Orton did last week. HHH says all of that happened before Vince did what he did. HHH says their team needs to be as strong as possible to ensure The Authority is still …well, the authority. Because of that, he’s calling Orton. Steph turns her back and looks upset/pissed off. HHH raises the phone to his head as we head back live inside the arena.
Jimmy Uso (with Jey Uso) vs. The Miz (with Damien Sandow)
From there, The Usos make their usual entrance to the ring. The announcers question what just went down between HHH and Steph backstage. They then inform us that Jimmy Uso goes one-on-one with The Miz after the break. On that note, we head to a commercial break.
When we return from the break, The Miz and Damien Sandow are in the ring finishing up their entrance. We then see highlights of RAW and Main Event, where The Usos pulled the “twin-switch” to best Miz and Sandow.
After that, the bell rings and it’s time for one-on-one action between Uso and Miz. We quickly see Uso gain the upper-hand and just as quickly, we see Sandow mimicking Miz’s movements on the floor. This time, we see Uso just feet away from Sandow looking at him doing this and shaking his head while semi-smiling and semi-laughing. Ultimately, this leads to Uso mimicking Sandow, who is mimicking The Miz. Good lord.
This continues throughout the match, with Sandow doing Miz’s motions and Uso doing …well, Uso’s. The finish sees Uso and Sandow having a distraction set up, allowing Miz to hit the Skull Crushing Finale on the other Uso inside the ring. 1-2-3. Miz wins.
Winner: The Miz
Sheamus vs. Tyson Kidd (with Natalya)
After that, the WWE United States Champion Sheamus makes his way to the ring. During his entrance, we head to a commercial break. Sheamus will be in action when we return.
We return from commercial, after a quick, new WWE Network promo, Tyson Kidd is in the middle of finishing his ring entrance. We see Natalya at ringside as Kidd takes his headphones off and hands them to her.
Before the match begins, we see Rusev’s promo from SmackDown, where he plants the seeds for his new feud with the U.S. Champion, Sheamus.
The bell rings and here we go. Kidd tries using a lot of quick kicks and speed early on, however the brute strength of Sheamus is too much. Sheamus dominates Kidd as we see Rusev and Lana watching on from a monitor backstage.
Sheamus hits a vicious Alabama Slam on Kidd and follows up with a Cloverleaf submission attempt, however Kidd makes it to the ropes. Kidd hits some high impact, high flying spots on Sheamus. The two end up outside the ring.
The ref gets his count to eight, then nine, then ….eight again? You heard right. Then nine, then Kidd avoids a Sheamus kick and rolls into the ring. Ten. Kidd wins via count out. After the match, Sheamus blasts Kidd with his finisher and walks off proudly for some reason. We head to commercial.
Winner via Count Out: Tyson Kidd
In-Ring Segment: The Authority & Dolph Ziggler
When we return from commercial, the WWE Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler makes his way to the ring. Lilian Garcia introduces “the opponent,” as she says, which results in “King of Kings” playing. Triple H, Stephanie McMahon, Kane, Seth Rollins, Joey Mercury and Jamie Noble all make their way to the ring.
We see highlights again of what Vince said in the opener about the Survivor Series main event stipulation, which would see The Authority no longer in control of their team loses at the upcoming pay-per-view.
Steph starts on the mic, with the entire Authority behind her, and she ensures that Team Authority will be the best team possible and they will win. She runs down the members of the team, which at this point include Seth Rollins, Kane and Randy Orton.
HHH then says he knows Ziggler, who is still in the ring, is free to side with who he wants. He warns him to question a few things, however. He basically threatens him not to team with John Cena.
Triple H strokes Ziggler’s ego a bit, saying he probably works harder than anyone else in the back, which brings out a huge pop from the fans, but then asks him, who gets the credit? He says John Cena does, not him. Steph asks Ziggler where John Cena is tonight. HHH says that’s a good point. He says Cena supposedly cares so much about his team, but he’s not even here tonight.
HHH and Steph continue to press Ziggler, trying to convince him to call Cena and tell him he won’t be part of his team at Survivor Series. They make all kinds of non-specific offers to Ziggler if he agrees not to be on Cena’s team.
Ziggler asks if he can really get anything he wants. HHH says yes, all he has to do is ask. Ziggler says, “okay, you know what I want? You out of power.” He says he wants his wife out of power, their cronies, etc. The fans pop and then break out into loud “Yes! Yes! Yes!” chants.
HHH tells Ziggler that that’s too bad. He says he wanted to give all the fans what they want and to give Ziggler what he wants. He says now that won’t happen. He mentions the 12-year-olds might tweet their displeasure as usual, but because of this, they no longer have anyone but Ziggler himself to blame for it. HHH continues to threaten Ziggler. He then tells him he’ll be defending his I-C title right now against “The future of the WWE” Seth Rollins. He tells Ziggler good luck, because he’s gonna need it. That match is next. On that note, we head to a commercial break.
WWE Intercontinental Championship
– Dolph Ziggler (c) vs. Seth Rollins
When we return from commercial, it’s time to begin this championship contest. Ziggler and Rollins are in the ring now, with most of The Authority — outside of Mercury and Noble — no longer at ringside.
The match begins and it doesn’t take long before Rollins is in control of the action. Rollins dominates Ziggler with ease for several minutes. Ziggler gets a little hope series in there, but within seconds, Rollins cuts him short and is firmly in control of the offense as we head to a mid-match commercial.
We’re back from the break and the first thing we see is Rollins holding Ziggler down, as he’s still easily in control of the action. We quickly see a highlight from the break via the WWE App of Rollins slamming Ziggler into the barricade. This leads to another commercial break.
Back live on RAW, Rollins has Ziggler down on the mat. They end up colliding in mid-air. Ziggler makes a big comeback and nails a neckbreaker before dropping a big elbow for a 2 count. More back and forth, Rollins with a close 2 count after the powerbomb into the turnbuckle. Ziggler hits the Fame-asser but can’t get the pin. More back and forth. Rollins with an enziguri for a close 2 count. Ziggler dodges a Curb Stomp. Noble and Mercury run interference and Ziggler gets decked while the ref has his back turned. Rollins throws Ziggler into the turnbuckle and hits a Curb Stomp. Randy Orton runs in the ring from behind and drops Rollins with a RKO. Noble and Mercury jump on the apron but Orton stares them down. Orton leaves the ring and Kane asks him what he’s doing on the ramp. We head to commercial.
Winner: No Contest
Backstage: Randy Orton & The Authority
Backstage, Randy Orton is with Triple H and Steph. They argue, leading to Orton threatening to become part of Team Cena. He tells them how he warned them to handle Rollins, or he would. He brings up what he just did in the I-C title match. He says he’ll continue to do this until HHH yells “Stop!” HHH gets in Orton’s face and tells him he needs him. He tells him that everything is at stake here. He says he sees the look in Orton’s eye. He says he needs that guy. He needs “The Viper.” He talks about their history and again reiterates how he needs that guy. Eventually, HHH tells Orton he’ll give him his match with Rollins tonight. He says get everything out of his system because when this is over, they’re gonna pick each other up, pat each other on the back and head into war together at the Survivor Series. HHH asks Orton if that’s a deal. Orton agrees and shakes HHH’s hand.
The Wyatt Family — Or Bray Wyatt — Again
The Wyatt Family, or Bray Wyatt, cut-in happens again. Really this is kept brief. Maybe 3-5 seconds. Not sure what to make of it, nor is the announce team. They question what that was as well. Anyways, we head to another commercial break.
Titus O’Neil vs. Ryback
We return from the break and Titus O’Neil is in the ring. He’s in the middle of cutting a little suck-up-to-The-Authority style promo, but is quickly interrupted by Ryback. “Feed Me More” hits and the big guy makes his way to the ring, for what apparently appears to be one-on-one action.
Once Ryback hits the ring, the bell sounds and the action begins. The fans in Buffalo immediately break out into a “Feed Me More” chant. It looks like, at least in this part of the country, that Ryback is still mega-over as a babyface, if WWE chooses to continue going this route.
O’Neil taunts Ryback after he hits a big move on him. Ryback fires up, however, and hits the Meathook Clothesline on him. We see The Authority watching this match backstage and the announcers speculate that Team Authority is scouting Ryback for their team at Survivor Series. Moments later, Ryback hits the Shellshock on O’Neil. 1-2-3.
Winner: Ryback
Backstage: Renee Young With Big Show
Backstage, Big Show starts with Renee Young by saying if John Cena needs a giant for Team Cena heading into Survivor Series, he’s his man. He then changes his attention to Mark Henry attacking him last week. He says there’s a part of him that wants his friend back and a part of him that wants to knock him out. Show vs. Henry is next. We head to commercial.
Big Show vs. Mark Henry
We return from commercial as Big Show is doing his ring entrance. After some highlights, “The World’s Strongest Man” Mark Henry makes his way to the ring with a mean look on his face. One-on-one action between the two big guys is up next.
The bell sounds and here we go. Big Show dominates Henry early on, however it isn’t long before Henry starts fighting back. Show hits a spear on Henry on the floor.
Back in the ring, Show is now back in control of “The World’s Strongest Man.” Show applies the calf-crusher to Henry in the ring, but Henry eventually makes it to the ropes, forcing a break of the hold. Now we see The Authority watching ahead backstage.
Henry hits a “World’s Strongest Slam” on Show out of nowhere, but Show manages to kick out at two. The announcers again ignore the action in the ring to promote a free month, including Survivor Series, of the WWE Netowrk. As this is happening, Henry is brutally attacking Show on the floor. If you were going strictly off of commentary, you wouldn’t even know it.
Well, until this. After a prolonged attack on the floor, Henry blasts Show with the ring steps. The ref finally calls for the bell. After the match, Henry brutally attacks Show some more, finishing by putting a “This Is What I Do” t-shirt across Show’s chest.
Winner via Disqualification: Big Show
Backstage: The Authority & Kane
Backstage, we see Triple H and Steph talking to Kane. They are trying to talk Mark Henry into joining their team. They say if Henry joins, they only need one more member. HHH tells Steph to trust him about something, what that is, I missed. We head to commercial.
Backstage: Renee Young With The Bella Twins & Erick Rowan
We’re back from the commercial and we see a shot at the announce table at ringside. WWE Divas Champion AJ Lee is with the usual trio. After a quick introduction of the champ, we shoot back to Renee Young backstage, who is with Brie Bella.
Brie is asked what it’s like to be 8 days into the 30 day assistant run for Nikki Bella. Before Brie can say much of anything, Nikki butts in and tells Brie no one cares what she has to say. Nikki orders Brie to leave, so she does.
From there, with Renee Young left alone, we see Erick Rowan next to Young. He takes the Sheep Mask off and tells Renee that she’s pretty. Renee looks and acts uncomfortable and then says she’s out of here. She leaves.
Nikki Bella vs. Emma
Back to the ring, Nikki Bella, accompanied by Brie Bella, make her way out. Already in the ring is Emma. The bell sounds and here we go.
AJ Lee is still at commentary for this one. Bella takes control early on, but within about two minutes, Emma is making her “big comeback.”
Emma goes for her big splash finisher in the corner on Nikki, but Nikki avoids it. Moments later, Nikki hits her “Rack Attack” finisher on Emma. 1-2-3. Nikki wins.
Winner: Nikki Bella
After The Match
After the match, Nikki celebrates and then whispers something into Brie’s ears. Brie goes out and slaps AJ Lee. AJ knocks Brie down and runs in after Nikki, realizing that she gave the orders. The fans chant “CM Punk! CM Punk!” as AJ’s music plays and she stares down Nikki, who is now on top of the stage after running away from the Divas Champion. After all of this, we head to commercial.
Vignette: “A New Day Is Coming”
“A New Day is Coming” vignette airs for Xavier Woods. It shows him with a Church choir singing. Really nothing much more to say other than that. He’s the frontman with a Church choir backing him. He’s doing James Brown style motions and movements and at the end of the vignette it says, as I mentioned, “A New Day is Coming.”
Rusev (with Lana) vs. Zack Ryder
Zack Ryder is in the ring for the next match. We see a Twitter plug of Ryder’s account, with him telling John Cena not to forget him when naming his Survivor Series team. Out comes his opponent for tonight, Rusev, accompanied as always by Lana.
The bell rings and here we go. We see Rusev dominating Ryder throughout this match, all-the-while The Authority looks on. Within about 2-3 minutes, Rusev slaps on The Accolade and Ryder taps out.
Winner: Rusev
After The Match
Lana and Rusev cut a brief promo. Lana says they’ll win the U.S. title for Vladimir Putin. Rusev tells Sheamus he’ll be no different than anyone else, he’ll beg and suffer. This brings Sheamus out. He makes his way to the ring as Rusev and Lana escape the ring. Sheamus plugs his U.S. title defense against Rusev on the WWE Network immediately after RAW goes off the air, warning Rusev that he’s in for the fight of his life, “fella.” (His final word, not mine.) We head to commercial after this.
Fernando (with Diego & El Torito) vs. Stardust (with Goldust)
We’ve got tag-team action up next. In the ring are the teams of Los Matadores and the WWE Tag-Team Champions, Goldust and Stardust.
The bell rings and here we go. It’s actually Fernando from Los Matadores versus Stardust of The Dust Brothers in one-on-one action.
As the match begins, we see that the team of The Miz and Damien Sandow are on commentary for this one. This match doesn’t last long at all. After some interference from El Torito, Fernando picks up the “W.” We head to commercial with the Orton-Rollins main event advertised as all that’s left, and what’s up next.
Winner: Fernando
Randy Orton vs. Seth Rollins
When we return from commercial, “King of Kings” is playing as we see Triple H and Stephanie McMahon at a table near the announce team for the main event, which is coming up next.
From there, Randy Orton’s theme music hits. “The Viper” makes his way to the ring as Lilian Garcia handles the main event introductions. Out next, accompanied by Joey Mercury and Jamie Noble, is “Mr. Money In The Bank” himself, Seth Rollins.
The bell sounds and here we go. Early on, Orton is in control of the offense. We see continuous glimpses of Triple H and Stephanie McMahon looking on, with Kane standing next to them, as Orton handles Rollins early on. We head to a mid-match commercial, likely our last of the evening.
We return from the break and we see Orton outside of the ring, staring at Rollins inside the ring. As he goes to enter the ring, Rollins chokes Orton over the top rope. This doesn’t mean much, however, as moments later, Orton is back in the ring and is in full control of Rollins. We see another shot of HHH and Steph looking on from ringside.
The action continues until out of nowhere, Rollins rolls Orton up. 1-2-3. Rollins wins.
Winner: Seth Rollins
After The Match
After the match, The Authority members, minus Triple H and Stephanie McMahon, line up in the ring. After asking HHH and Steph what they want him to do, Orton shakes the hands, one-by-one, of Mercury, Noble and Kane. When he gets to Rollins, he shakes his hand at first, but out of nowhere, RKO’s him.
“The Viper” starts attacking anything that moves until HHH hits the ring and gets in Orton’s face, yelling at him, “No.” Eventually, Orton loses his cool and attacks HHH out of nowhere. This leads to the other Authority members attacking Orton. In the end, Rollins hits a Curb Stomp on Orton on the announce table. The table didn’t break, however. HHH runs over and tells the guys to stop.
HHH is overheard telling the guys that “that’s enough.” He looks at Steph, who looks pissed. Orton is crawling towards HHH. Steph orders HHH to “finish this.” HHH grabs Orton, who is bleeding from the forehead now, by the way, lays on the ground as HHH tells Rollins-and-company to “finish it.”
Triple H and Stephanie walk away as Rollins and Mercury-Noble set up the bottom half of the ring steps. Kane puts Orton’s face on top of the ring steps. Rollins yells at him and then hops on top of the announce table. He mocks Orton’s extended-hand pose from there and then runs and nails Orton with the Curb Stomp, blasting his face onto the ring steps. HHH and Steph, from the top of the ramp, look on and smile in approval. RAW goes off the air on that note.
